camp YOU TRIED TO BREAK ME ★ CELEBRATION

Scarletpaw hovers near the edge of the clearing, her fur bristling from the memory of the battles. Flamestar's speech rings with pride and defiance, but the young she-cat can't shake the unease settling in her chest. A feast to honor the fallen. The words feel…heavy. They will eat, laugh, and celebrate, but there are still warriors they will never see again. The thought makes it hard to want to celebrate anything.

She shifts her weight awkwardly as she scans the crowd. Her clanmates begin gathering in small groups, sharing prey and starting quiet conversations. For a moment, she thinks about finding her mentor, but Scarletpaw isn't sure Raccoonstripe would even want her tagging along after him all night. He's a warrior, with his own friends and mate and kits. He doesn't need her hovering. Her gaze lands on Mottledpaw instead, weaving slowly into the crowd with a slight limp and that strange, cautious tilt to her head. The tortoiseshell's heart clenches - she hasn't seen her sister much since returning from the battle, and the sight of her like this makes her paws move before her mind catches up.

"Mottledpaw!" She calls louder than intended, trotting over. Grimacing, she lowers her voice as she stops in front of her sister. "Hey." She glances nervously at her littermate's injuries, trying not to stare at the scabbing wound on her face. "You, uh...you look like you could use some company." She hesitates for a heartbeat, then awkwardly adds, "Want to share something? I mean, it's a feast, right? You're supposed to...to celebrate with someone." She hates how unsure she sounds, but she hates the idea of Mottledpaw sitting alone even more. If she has to put on a (poorly executed) festive persona for her, she will.

〕An ear flicks dismissively at Flamestar's announcements. Honeypaw finds it difficult to find something worth celebrating in this weather, after the joint ambush from RiverClan and ShadowClan, after too many deaths. A celebration of life is what someone in the crowd calls it, and their expression contorts into a frown. Not much life to celebrate. Is a bitter thought, but true nonetheless — and yet, the Clan does just that. A feast, like they've been blessed by StarClan, like their ancestors are the ones telling them to find joy amidst their situation.

The old spirits didn't feel cold, they didn't starve.

With an annoyed twitch of their tail and an irritated puff, Honeypaw stands up abruptly and decides they'd rather hang out with the kits ( which included Bayingkit, unfortunately ) than listen to their older clanmates. The tabby grabs a squirrel, letting it dangle from its tail as they trotted towards the nursery. It is not the brown-and-black figure of Bayingkit they see first, but rather the silvery one of Twilightkit, and that's good enough for them. The apprentice drops the squirrel unceremoniously by the kit's paw, mumbling "You should eat."

Not being a social creature can be a blessing, not having to stick to whatever politeness the majority of the clan seems to cling to. This lead to it's downsides as well, having to speak with more than two cats lead to it's heart beat picking up. Every interaction felt like a headache and there was a desire to immediately exit the vicinity. This is no different, a celebration ongoing means a central meeting place for the clan. His hungry stomach stirs him to mingle with everyone, to go find the first piece of prey she can wrap her fangs around.

The idea of sharing it too, it brought a clench of their jaw and a raise of already unruly fur. With a deep exhale they realised that this is a necessary struggle, cats who partake in this are liked right? He contemplates while wild fangs threaten to pierce the skin of the deceased prey, a careful lash of a smoked tail being the ultimate decider. This would be good for her, even if the idea of socialising in such a crowded space makes it want to render the fur from their own pelt. So with a final huffy exhale he attempts to find a clanmate to share this with.

Flamestar's call reaches tufted ears, a ragged pelt that has melted into its sickbed. Raccoonstripe shuffles to his feet, unwilling to miss a moment of diplomacy, even in the throes of his illness, his injury; he comes to stand beside Mottledpaw, their scarred faces latching onto the ginger she-cat who is their only beacon. She tells ThunderClan that they should celebrate the break in the weather, that Campionsong and Barleysight deserve that honor, and the tabby feels inclined to agree. Their sacrifices had not been in vain — despite their misfortune, ThunderClan lived to fight another day, he thinks.

It is easy enough for young Mottledpaw to slip away from him, to find her sister amidst the crowd. Raccoonstripe lets is single-eyed gaze linger on his temporary denmate and his apprentice for a moment before he shifts it elsewhere. Nightbird is chatting with Woollykit, her denmate for just a little longer, and he can see Twilightkit with Honeypaw nearby.

He is not hungry — it has been since before he went under the water that he had been — but he can see the shaggy fur of Howlpaw through the clamor, and he approaches on stiffened limbs. Howlpaw is fearless, had chanced the wrath of the other Clans to feed ThunderClan, and Raccoonstripe looks upon the young rogue-born cat with a veiled respect. "If you aren't opposed, I'll share that with you," he says, trying for a smile. It feels rusted in place. "You can have most of it, though. I'll just take a bite to settle my stomach."

Her resolve on compassion wavered a little into crushing sadness: Stormywing's first statement, definitive. I don't deserve this. Every nerve within her wished to surge forward and silence her, to find some hold- brush of the muzzle, sweep of the tail. She held herself still, though. Sudden movement, would she think her a murderer? Silencing her suffering the ways he had been taught ... no, there would be no thought of it.

Did Father mock her? Look at this pain, everlasting. She could hear his preaching, brittle and rattling with the debris of age. You could have stopped this. His eyes were laughing from his star-written place, she knew it... wherever he was, his tusks curled into something belittling. Strike of his claws on her face, oh ...

"They will not look at you the same." Thundergleam nodded, slowly- though her tone was not harsh, never harsh. She would not lie, she would never lie. "But you move forward, always, to show them your heart. Show them that your heart is here." She swayed a little, wanting to touch her. "No matter the past, the future holds time for you. Time everlasting, to prove to them that you are the loyal cat I know you are."

No argument, there would be nothing that would ever convince her otherwise. Not Gentlestorm's derision of some... infatuation, not the disapproving looks Stormywing received. Thundergleam would not waver from her side. Faith was all she knew how to recognise, anymore... and she had boundless amounts of it in Stormywing. A smile, satisfied, settled on her maw as Stormywing took a bite. For you, she said. Thundergleam's heartbeat quivered. "It is for you, if it is for me." Quietly said. They wanted after the same thing.

Ivorypaw's wounds had been treated without issue, and they had healed, but ugly pink scarring mars the kittypet-pristine white fur she'd been born with. She wears the loss she'd suffered on her pelt, and to her, it's a shameful reminder of the way she'd cringed against Sneezeduck's laws, a reminder of where she'd come from, where she'd never get to leave. Campionsong and Barleysight are dead — and she is fortunate, she knows, because that could have easily been her in their stead. It could have been Palefire, Meadowpaw, or...

Her dark gaze lingers on Scarletpaw, who goes to share a meal with her sister. She frowns, wrapping her tail around her paws. Would she care if Scarletpaw had been hurt? After the kittypet taunts, the poisoned berry flesh near her mouth, the exile, the way she'd held her face in the mud and screeched, "You don't belong here?"

Her lips tighten. No. Scarletpaw has fooled the rest of the Clan, but she has made no effort to fool Ivorypaw. She turns her face away from her former friend, seeking someone else to share prey with.

Tch. Some celebration.

Twilightkit keeps his limbs folded beneath him, gaze defiantly leaving the ginger furred leader as she tries to commence some sort of warmth and happiness. He figures that much of his thoughts are the same - they lost land and lives. Sure, they are living, but for how long? Will SkyClan or WindClan move in next, gobble up their trees and streams and scatter ThunderClan cats amidst them? Or will they slaughter them all, ending bloodlines where they lasted the longest? (Paranoia. That's all it is, and he shoves it away with a lone forepaw.)

Honeypaw drops their squirrel before him and it's the only moment wherein the kitten indulges in the festivities. He had eaten with his mother moments before, though he had taken morsels compared to what he may have indulged a moon prior. He looks back at Honeypaw with narrowed gilded eyes and decides that his sharp tongue would be useless right then.

"Eat with me," he demands, sweeping his tail away to make room for the other. "You're actually hunting. You need the strength," gratitude that the apprentice merely exists for working paws, forgiveness from the ire that the other has only earned by circumstance. "And I will catch you something as soon as I am a paw, to make up for it," he says shortly after in the same, clipped tone.

She cannot eat as often. Her stomach complains and writhes and twists, and Doepath only affords herself much of the bare minimum out of fear of wasting anymore. Sunshinespot has noticed this; experiencing similar difficulties (but far from the same,) and being so in close proximity to his wife (most of the time) means that he does not have the space to not notice it.

That said, he still tries. He does not pressure his lover, but he offers her many opportunities and leaves it to her to decide how much she can handle. StarClan knows he's as bottomless-pit as any of them - he'll always manage the rest. In light of the celebration, the mottled tom takes his usual spot beside Doepath, slinging a bird to fit between his paws. Laughblossom's cheer is shared by Doepath and Sunshinespot nods in eager agreement, "And what a bright future it will be..." With them as parents, joyously bountiful with kits. He takes the first bite of their meal.

There is always a certain amount of attention that Houndshade dedicates to listening in on the going ons of her clanmates. She acts like she doesn't really listen but such cold weather doesn't afford her any of her usual past times. She tries to laze about it the sun but it's incredibly hard to appear like you don't care about work when the best lounging spots are ice cold.

No matter, she can dedicate time tonight to prying into their clanmates lives. Isn't that also part of the celebration after all? She likes to believe it is, almost better than any prey no matter what her growling stomach might say. It's a near miss opportunity, to see ivorypaw glance at her once friend and leave from a self imposed gaze. A rupture that hasn't seemed to healed since Skyclaw's reign. No matter though, one cats loss is another one's gain and all that.

So Houndshade approaches, lazy smile in tow. "Ivorypaw, would you want to share a bird with me? Hate plucking those feathers by myself" she shudders at the thought. It's clear it's a little put on, though they turn their nose skywards in a way to act like they don't register that fact. "Anything else would be fine too, don't let me hog all the choices!"

Addersnap wasn't taking the attack from ShadowClan and RiverClan lightly. His mood was lower than its usual self, tail almost dragging against the frost-covered ground and ears lowered with a dejected gaze. What kind of warrior was he, beaten down by someone who (he thought) was so much weaker than him? He bit the inside of his cheek just at the thought, fur ruffled as Flamestar's call rang throughout the camp clearing. A celebration? What was the reason, when they had lost so much? The tabby sat off at the edges of the crowd, eyesight now clouded with anger as he observed from afar. He rather not join in unless he had to.

〕It was a welcomed break in the cold weather. For once in what felt like forever, she had finally been successful in hunting that morning, and with the achievement returned an excited glimmer to her eyes. Her mother claimed that they were feasting in honor of Campionsong and Barleysight, so the circumstances were rather heavy, but she was just happy to fall asleep with a full belly tonight. Being born in newleaf, she was used to the spoils of green leaf. The pains of hunger were something foreign to her, and it was not something she particularly enjoyed.

There weren't many clanmates that she would really call close friends. After Sparrowpaw's death, she hadn't ventured outside of her family circle much. She was looking for Sunpaw or Falconheart, when Thrashpaw padded over to her. The older apprentice blinked in surprise, "Oh! Hi Thrashpaw." She hadn't really spoken to the newer apprentice much, outside of exchanges on patrols.

a longhaired tortoiseshell with low white and green eyes. Ravenpaw bares a pitch black pelt, broken up by vibrant blazes of red fire. Her fur is long, curling up around her face. She has dark green eyes like her mother, and carries a light, athletic build like her mother. She has very minimal white like her father, only having a little spot above her nose on her face, and her front left toes. Her front left leg is encapsulated by blazing fire, wrapping around her back up into her bushy fox-like tail.

༄.𖥔 ݁ ˖ — Gentlestorm lingers outside his den for a few heartbeats only to glance in the direction of his clanmates that are celebrating and he blinks tired copper eyes in their direction unable to find the energy to join them, his ear flicks to the side at the mention of Barleysight and Campionsight's deaths, he can't help the frown that forms on his maw. "Good... hunting to the both of you..." He catches sight of Stormywing and Thundergleam for a mere heartbeat then turns his attention to Flamestar, a paw of his lifts for a moment only to settle onto the ground once more and a soft sigh brushes out from his parted jaws. He would've joined Hopepaw, Orangepaw, or even Doepath but they all seem occupied so he figures that he wouldn't bother any of them.

They're happy and that's enough for him, he thinks. His ears press flat against his skull and his silver pelt brushes against the frosted plant that drapes over the entrance of his den, Gentlestorm breathes quietly to himself and settles at the entrance of his den. He would sit by himself but keep an eye on those that are still recovering from his injuries and blinks when the movement of something in the air catches his eye. It twirls towards him only to land onto his nose and causes him to flinch as it melts, the large tomcat is lost to the world as he sits there with a blank stare, Starclan presenting him a vision while they celebrate and when it's over. A shaky breath leaves him as a bewildered expression forms on his face and he glances to those around him once more before shakily rising to his paws, he stumbles into his den without a word.

He finds that he can't stomach anything and his eyes sting from the tears that he had shed within that heartbeat even if he doesn't quite realize it himself, the silvery tom collapses into his nest and tries to anchor himself so the world isn't spinning anymore.

Perhaps the warmer weather would feel better against his fur if it weren't for the tense atmosphere that has lingered over the clan. Toadhop has found himself more withdrawn than usual, his mind reflecting on the battle, on the losses that have sealed their fate among the stars and a territory dwindled. Things should've gone differently. They could've gone differently. The tom can't help but linger on what could've been done differently.

Hardly does he find the means to celebrate, but Toadhop tries his best to keep his mood light in the wake of the festivities. There is some good, he supposes. Better chances at hunting, a break in the shiver in his step. Toadhop can only be grateful for that, right? On the outskirts of the clearing, the tom's gaze scans the area, searching for a family member to spend the festivities with.

Squirrelpaw was, admittedly, still feeling a bit sore from her wounds, but there was no way she was going to miss out on the celebration just because she was achy. The apprentice had (carefully, under Gentlestorm's watchful eye) dragged herself from her temporary nest in the medicine den, settling briefly amongst the crowd of Thunderclanner's as her mother addressed them all. A feast, a night to relax and honor those that they had lost during the battles. The blue torbie felt her heart quake at the thought of Barleysight and Campionsong; her gaze unconsciously sought out Basilpaw and Merlinpaw. As bad as her own fight had been, at least she had returned home to her family.

And speaking of her family... Squirrelpaw eagerly glanced around at the gathered faces once Flamestar was finished speaking, hoping to find any of her siblings nearby. But Falconheart was already sharing with Bugpaw, and Ravenpaw had joined Thrashpaw. Ears folded against her skull dejectedly for the briefest of moments, before her emerald gaze fell to her mother. A fiery beacon amongst the sea of Thunderclanners, Flamestar stood alone. Squirrelpaw quickly snatched up a fat mouse before they ran out, and hobbled over to her mother's side. She dropped the prey at her paws and leaned into her shoulder, smiling warmly up into eyes that matched her own. "Will you share with me?"

Where Twilightkit might find fault in there being a celebration after so badly losing the fight against ShadowClan and RiverClan, Berrykit looks at the festivities with a positive eye. They might have lost the battles, but there was still the war to be won. He knew that once all the warriors had recovered from their wounds, they would strike back against the Clans who had wronged them and all would be righted once more in the forest. His mother and father would never let what had happened stand to happen again, and the next time, Berrykit would be able to fight at their sides for ThunderClan's honor. The feast now was a way to keep morale high after it had tanked so low.

Nightbird had treated the family earlier to some prey, and Berrykit was still content with what he had eaten then - that, and there was something deep in him that didn't want to deprive his Clanmates of prey that would otherwise be theirs to consume.

It was difficult to feel cheerful now, in the face of all that they had lost. Flamestar's words were confident and encouraging, trying to give hope that Thunderclan would take back what had been stolen from them. But in that moment, Palefire couldn't quite believe it. They'd lost several fine warriors in the battles between Shadowclan and Riverclan, and many more among them had been badly injured. Even their apprentices had walked away from the fight changed, both physically and otherwise. Yes, they may have more prey tonight than they had in the past few weeks, but that did not make up for the stinging ache of loss.

Palefire quietly waited for their leader to finish her rousing speech, almost feeling relieved when they all finally broke into small clusters to feast together. She needed to at least try to distract herself, for a little while. Immediately she sought the pelts of her friends, but could not find Lightflower, Badgerstripe or Lovelight in the crowd. Meadowpaw was likely going to be joining her sisters, and Nightbird had her young family to celebrate with. Cool blue eyes quickly fell to a distinct alabaster pelt, where her apprentice seemed deep in thought before Houndshade joined her. The softest of smiles ghosted across her face, before she grabbed a squirrel from the pile and joined the pair of mollies. "Mind if I eat with you?" She purred warmly to the both of them.

⁺₊⋆ ☀︎ ⋆⁺₊ Feasting. Perhaps Starclan takes pity on them as all the hunting patrols come back with food and Flamestar's words brings the clan over like the sun does when it finally reaches its peak in the sky. Dwindlingpaw exchanges short greetings her hunger beckoning her over to the fresh kill pile even with her sour mood.

Her cut is cold and yet as soon as her tongue tastes it the apprentice's stomach rumbles impatiently. Overwhelming the bitter taste of defeat. Her muscles pull at her bruises but at least none of her own blood was shed. Dwindlingpaw weaved though the crowd and found her self a nice corner to cat watch and eat her quickly hardening meal.

After all the trouble they've been through, maybe they deserve a feast. Perhaps not a… celebration, but Shadowedpaw thinks ThunderClan needs something good, right now.

The flame and cream tom picks his own meal from the pile, something smaller; it feels strange, picking out something before he's absolutely certain everyone else has eaten. Sea-blue gaze searches the camp for a place to sit, a familiar face to settle beside.

Comfort is found in flame-pointed hues, and cream toed paws move forward. It's a sibling his paws stop in front of, a small smile cast toward Dwindlingpaw.

" Mind if I sit? " the tom asks.

⋆。˚ ☁︎ ˚。⋆。˚☀︎˚。⋆ Finchpaw knew he should feel grateful, and yet the pit in his stomach only seemed to grow in size and weight as Flamestar continued on with her speech in an attempt to uplift those around her who may be feeling similarly to him. For most, it seemed to prove effective, others not so much- him included, much to his dismay- he wanted to join in the celebratory atmosphere, if even just to save face. And yet, in this moment surrounded by smiling faces and flittering words of encouragement and lighthearted banter, it seemed to be the most impossible feat he'd ever been faced with.

He was angry. Angry at himself, angry at Houndshade, angry at Owlpaw and Sparkpaw, angry at the entirety of Riverclan and Shadowclan. Perhaps even angry at the entire world, but the mingling disappointment behind the burning intensity seemed to eat him alive in a way that was much more unbearable. He should have done more, should have been better, should have proved himself the way he had promised his previous mentor upon his reassignment- and he had failed.

There would be no prey taken by the jaws of the compact apprentice, who instead turned away with a head and tail hanging heavily towards the ground as he disappeared into the apprentices den, intending to sleep away the remainder of the evening in his brittle nest.

Howlpaw hears Raccoonstripe's voice before it looks up, amber eyes narrowing slightly as they land on the tom. It is a calculating gaze, one that flickers briefly over his stiff posture, the gauntness of his frame, and the hollow way he speaks. For all his effort, the smile barely passes for one, more a grimace softened by exhaustion. The apprentice doesn't answer immediately, instead flicking its tail and pushing the meager remains of its meal toward him without hesitation. Its appetite had long since vanished, smothered by the weight of unspoken tensions and the memories of the Clans' disdain for it. "Take what you need," it says flatly, its tone low but edged with a bluntness that showcases its disinterest in pleasantries. "Doesn't make sense to starve yourself more than you already have."

It watches him carefully as he moves closer, its muscles coiled tight, though not in aggression—just instinctive wariness, a habit it hasn't shaken and likely never will. Raccoonstripe's respect is veiled, but Howlpaw doesn't miss the subtle shift in his demeanor. It meets his gaze for only a moment before glancing away, jaw tightening as if to deflect whatever meaning might linger in the exchange. "You're worse off than me," it mutters after a beat, its voice quieter now, though the words hold no pity. Observant as always, Howlpaw reads the stiffness in Raccoonstripe's gait, the hollowness in his eyes, and catalogues it without attachment. "Not sure why you're up at all." There's no malice in the comment, only the kind of blunt practicality that has kept it alive this long. For a moment, it debates saying more but decides against it. Instead, Howlpaw sits back, chin lifting slightly as it scans the camp. "Eat what you can." The words are brusque but carry an undercurrent of something steadier—its version of care, begrudging though it might be. It doesn't look at him again, though; its attention has already shifted, scanning the camp for the next flicker of movement that might demand its focus.
