    her father's maine coon genes seemed to have skipped cherrykit, save for her long hair. cherrykit will always stand slightly taller than her peers, growing to about 10 inches at the shoulder, but not so tall as to be particularly notable. beneath her sleek, obsessively-maintained coat lies the musculature of any clan cat, lean and robust from the many moons under starclan's distant eyes. she inherits the full, supple shoulders of her parents, and paws well-suited for gripping and staying but not running. submersed in skyclan culture from birth, it's no wonder her hind legs are particularly strong, whether to spring into trees or batter opponents with.

    cherrykit's dear features are generally overshadowed by snooty or annoyed expressions. she lacks the broad muzzle and large ears of the maine coon, instead retaining the delicate nose and non-scruffy muzzle pads of ordinary cats. wip

    her coat is embroidered in the colors of her family. predominantly off-white, this milky color and the paler orange of her sunset hues are from her mother, orangeblossom. thick stripes, hidden so well within her orange splotches that they look like their primary color, share their rosy coloration with her brother, hiccupkit. the third color, a faded black like well-worn jeans, come from the darkest stripes of her father, ashenclaw. moon yellow eyes seem to be all her own though. they're always scrunched a little at the bottoms, as though her eyes are smiling even through the most somber or rage-inducing of situations.

    cherrykit has seemingly never felt insecure in her life. bolstered by her relatively stable and happy upbringing, she rarely questions her view of the world. her path, ever-guided by starclan and skyclan, is the righteous one. she considers herself something greater than the wayward masses of kittypets, daylight warriors, rogues, and other clans. still, by virtue of being born in the land of travelers, waypoint for some and found family for others, she has an open-minded approach to most novelties. strangers aren't always an automatic source of danger for her, unlike other clan cats or even her own clanmates, and she'll happily venture into new territories or switch up her routine. she's quite used to cats coming and going, and isn't incentivized to feel empathy for those she barely knows or has nothing in common with.

    be it a feature of her youth or just personality, cherrykit has little patience for bad first impressions. she's openly judgemental, but shies away from being straightforwardly mean. instead, she tends to make snide or backhanded compliments, and will appear a little disappointed if they go over the intended target's head. outward appearances are a reflection of the inside to cherrykit. a disheveled-looking cat or one in poor health will be considered as having inflicted it upon themselves due to negligence. she believes her actions directly control her fate, ignorant of the fact that she stands on the shoulders of giants, and she attributes all of her successes to her own hard work. on the opposite side, she readily admits her failures are her own fault as well.

    she isn't afraid to show affection, nearly overbearing with compliments for friends and family. it isn't often she'll notice someone uncomfortable with her effusive praise, and setting boundaries on it annoy her. she tends to be blind to the flaws of those she loves, dismissing introspection and self-doubt as silly thought exercises that will only slow you down or waste your time. cherrykit will try to nudge others into improving themselves, even those who aren't close to her, ignoring whether she's being annoying or not. love is a big motivator for her, but so is spite. cherrykit seldom backs down from a challenge, and those who want her to do something will often find it easier to tell her she can't. she's easily angered on behalf of herself, but also of others, and will jump to defend the honor of those she thinks would do the same for her.

    quirks & mannerisms / often pats down stray hairs in conversation, or otherwise eye the out-of-place features of others. emphasizes words as a subtle attention-getter. overgrooms herself when stressed, possibly tearing out fur and reopening wounds. adamantly refuses to climb trees during or before storms, and similarly dislikes storms.

    • i want to lean into how anger-driven she is. strings of bad or traumatic events serve to piss her off after the initial shock and sadness wears off. she'll take it upon herself to do better, because she can control herself if nothing else, but she also lets the emotions get the better of her too often. she fails often because she loses her cool; she doesn't innately grasp the concept of "the master has failed more times than the beginner has tried" because she tends to want to give up on anything she's not immediately good at. she needs a mentor who will pick her up off the ground and force her to do things over and over again.
    • maybe when leafbare rolls around she gets sick with greencough, which forces her to submit to the care of the medicine cats. e.g. her health is now completely out of her control, and she will be very bad tempered about it before someone calls her out on it.
    • i would love if she had a short-term relationship or two as a young warrior/late apprentice. especially if it's cross-clan. i want to experiment with how her personality drives loved ones away and how she learns from it (either by somehow doing some introspection or someone calls her out on things. as she gets older she shouldn't be called out on too many things because by then she'd have to have learned to question herself sometimes, but that's not going to happen until she's around 2 years old?)

He bares his teeth at her. “Your brain is the size ‘f your nose, you know that?”

    The kit has a certain haughtiness of demeanour that appeals to Spiderpaw; perhaps reminding her of her own better aspects. Despite popular belief, in the smoky apprentice's opinion, to be haughty isn't always a bad thing; her own personality isn't exactly her favorite thing about herself, but it's not a terrible trait to observe on other cats. On the small frame of Cherrykit, it's almost amusing—this patchwork kit behaving like a miniature leader, she seems to take after her mother (who Spiderpaw hasn't met much) in that regard.

  • june '23 / cherrykit and her siblings are born on a greenleaf morning.

    she's introduced to snakes by johnny, who doesn't sic them upon her despite las plagas's insistence and eggkit's reassurance he'll defend her. she scuffles with doomguy over nothing, to the chagrin of some and joy of others. various questions plague her clanmates, not particularly bothering orangeblossom, but definitely irritating slate over whether he's a kittypet.

    a strange wind seems to permanently pick up, and the sky becomes overcast with not a drop of rain falling. she listens to her clanmates gossip about twolegs and the fog, learning a few things about twolegs and their strange lives. yukio ventures outside without escort and returns to the nursery injured, causing a small commotion and exposing cherrykit to injury for the first time before she's shushed by orangeblossom. she meets spiderpaw, gaining an appreciation for their beauty and spiderpaw herself.

    the winds grow stronger, enough to blow trash into shadowclan territory and knock down branches. an entire tree falls; snowpath gives his life to save butterflytuft, plaguekit, and cherrykit from its impact, but the nursery is destroyed. the rainless storm dies down a few days later.

    bobbie gives birth, then the nursery is rebuilt. cherrykit and one of bobbie's new kits, crowkit, have a misunderstanding over her explanation of what she's learned about skyclan culture. plaguekit and cherrykit have a civil conversation for once about the events of snowpath's death and why, even though he was right beside her, he didn't cry. one night, she sneaks out of the nursery to visit duskpool in the medicine cat den and pester him with questions.

    cherrykit hears of a dog attack on a patrol. she talks with lupinekit, comparing their mothers in the aftermath of the attack. drowsykit and cherrykit reenact it as a childish coping mechanism. during the actual gathering, plaguestar, cherrystar, doomstar, and hiccupstar gather as leaders of stormclan, sunclan, doomclan, and cloudclan.

    orangeblossom teaches the kits how to climb, where cherrykit reveals herself to be a natural at it.

—— to some, cherrypaw is insufferable. to others, she's slightly less so. cherrypaw has seemingly never felt insecure in her life. bolstered by her relatively stable and happy upbringing, she rarely questions her view of the world. her path, ever-guided by starclan and skyclan, is the righteous one. she considers herself something greater than the wayward masses of kittypets, daylight warriors, rogues, and other clans. still, by virtue of being born in the land of travelers, waypoint for some and found family for others, she has an open-minded approach to most novelties. strangers aren't always an automatic source of danger for her, unlike other clan cats or even her own clanmates, and she'll happily venture into new territories or switch up her routine. she's quite used to cats coming and going, but isn't incentivized to empathize those she barely knows or has nothing in common with; they'll come and go as the rest of them do.

be it a feature of her youth or just personality, cherrypaw has little patience for bad first impressions. she's openly judgemental, occassionally straying into the territory of straightforwardly mean. manipulation isn't cherrypaw's forte though: the slyest things she'll do is make backhanded compliments, appearing a little disappointed if they go over the intended target's head. outward appearances are a reflection of the inside to cherrypaw. a disheveled-looking cat or one in poor health will be considered as having inflicted it upon themselves due to negligence. she believes her actions directly control her fate, ignorant of the fact that she stands on the shoulders of giants, and she attributes all of her successes to her own hard work. on the opposite side, she readily admits her failures are her own fault as well.

she isn't afraid to show affection, nearly overbearing with compliments for friends and family. it isn't often she'll notice someone uncomfortable with her effusive praise, and setting boundaries on it annoy her. she tends to be blind to the flaws of those she loves, including herself, dismissing introspection and self-doubt as silly thought exercises. she will never underestimate herself, but may shoot a little over. cherrypaw will push others into improving themselves, ignoring whether her advice is unfounded or even necessary. love is a big motivator for her, but so is spite. cherrypaw seldom backs down from a challenge, and those who want her to do something will often find it easier to tell her she can't. she's easily angered on behalf of herself, but also of others, and will jump to defend the honor of those she thinks would do the same for her.

╰ "when i was a kit, really young, like absolutely tiny, there were a bunch of storms. no rain, just clouds. awful, right? the whole place was greyed out, and it was so, so windy. this was in the middle of greenleaf too, so, you know how it is, it was super humid too. i mean walking around would've felt like walking through fog. i don't really remember the spe-ci-fics.

anyway, there was one day where a, a, a tree fell. a big one, but not that big, you know? big enough to be blown down. anyway, it fell on the nursery. i was there. i think...butterflytuft and plague—well, plaguekit back then—they were there too, right in front of that thing. i don't...i don't really remember the details, but, ah, some cat named snowpaw rushed in and knocked us all out of the way. he, well, he was crushed. by it. saved all our sorry tails. apparently blazestar renamed him snowpath right then and there for being such a hero.

the storm went away a few sunrises later, thank starclan. maybe it was snowpath doing it. anyway. a couple of other things happened, some cats got attacked by a dog on patrol and some others disappeared—i still think they just went to the twolegplace. gave up on being a warrior. cowards. my friends, some of them grew up with me. can't imagine not growing up with some friendly faces, or maybe those kinds are just too antisocial to make friends.

oh, later on too, windclan attacked us. apparently they were gonna storm our camp in the middle of the night, but i heard thunderclan warned us ahead of time. so noble. i sort of forgot why they were attacking, but that was one of the more...fox-hearted things windclan's done. sticks to you, you know? ma and some other warriors stayed up all night guarding camp, but i fell asleep. hah, i knew they weren't gonna make it past everyone blazestar sent out. worrying's kind of dumb in those situations, you know? no one died, so life was good after that.

did i do anything else as a kit? obviously. aww yeah, i was such a little go-getter. so cute too, wish there was some way for you to have seen me. i was a sweet little terror. of course there's more, let me think for a second..."

liua to tigerfang - shorthaired red mackerel tabby / chocolate chimera with low white and grey-blue eyes. chocolate provides the "stripes" and "point", while red tabby provides the variation in color and additional stripes. short, tattered ears to mimic a tiger's.
maggie to meadowsong - longhaired lilac silver classic lynx sepia with high white and golden eyes. classic tabby blotched markings along flanks plus stylized high white spotting gives the appearance of wings. purplish tint to lilac coloring. honestly idk what to do with silver but it should look cool and ethereal.

    ╰ Cherrypaw has a relatively standard relationship with her mother, and the complex feelings she hides on the topic are masked by the intrinsic love for her that hardly has a reason to become strained. Orangeblossom is her rock and role model, at the same time she is her persecutor and judge. For most of her life as an apprentice, she finds it somewhat difficult to see Orangeblossom as a figure other than a parent: a sister, a lover, a fighter. The one other role her mother clearly fulfills is being deputy, something Cherrypaw takes great pride in being the daughter of. At times, she's jealous over the attention her mother must split between her duties, her four biological children, her three adopted ones, and her own life; or she's resentful of the grand paw-prints Cherrypaw is obligated to walk in.

She almost looks annoyed, but about what, you don't know. That you asked? That she didn't know her better? That no one other than Pigeonsong still carries her death? "I liked her," she eventually remarks. "I heard she was kind of a bitch." Cherrypaw says it without a trace of insult, and she lightens up a bit.

    ╰ Cherrypaw misses Spiderpaw, as much as one can miss someone she didn't know all that well anyway. Spiderpaw taught her a lot of things, how to be beautiful and know she is, how to be a gossip, how to weave flowers into her long fur. She's angry at her for dying, especially with no cause to pin the blame on, and wishes she would've at least seen her in her apprenticeship. Cherrypaw knows how irrational this feeling is though. It's just a facade for her lingering grief, a feeling which isn't shared by many other SkyClanners and is particularly susceptible to being buried under peer pressure. She thinks they would've been good friends when they were older and hopes she's watching her and Lupinepaw with amusement.

Streamkit is a typhoon of a kitten: boisterous, inquistive, and seemingly everywhere at once, whether it's popping out of a newly-made hole in warrior's den or trying to fling himself off the willow branches. He's startlingly obstinate and adores pulling pranks, which stems from his apparent need to find and push everyone's buttons. He'll quickly learn that clan kittens can get away with just about anything with their cute looks, and he'll be very upset when the novelty of he and his litter wears off as they grow. It feels like Streamkit has never heard the word "no" in his life, and if it's said to him he'll breeze right through it. He's at once fiercely independent yet clingy, insisting on his own annoying boundaries while happily invading others'. Streamkit seems to lack impulse control and a filter entirely.

In short, Streamkit is absolutely obnoxious, and there's no telling what it'll take to wring it out of him. However, he has one redeeming quality: he excels at just about anything he puts his mind to. Fighting and hunting come as easily as breathing to him, and he picks up concepts (that interest him) with a snap. Catching his attention is easy, but holding it there is like wrangling a cat-sized fish with your paws.

For all his flaws, the boy never has any truly malicious intentions. He's just as likely to try to make friends with someone as he is to provoke them. WIP
  • I have a fun thread idea in mind where Streamkit boasts about being one of the first ones to be fed in the middle of Leaf-bare, as queens, kits, and elders are prioritized, which will definitely give him some enemies.
  • Streamkit will most likely be a drypaw, which especially cements his status as a pseudo-outsider in RiverClan. He'll probably just refuse to go into the water unless given a substantial bribe, but even then he won't particularly like it.
  • I'm all for IC consequences, especially given his behavior! He can be held back from apprenticeship, threatened with exile when he's older, etc. By the time he's made an apprentice, he'll probably have learned it's better to temper his personality in favor of guaranteed shelter and cats to annoy, and he'll settle for seeing how far he can push these constraints.
  • WRT the above, I want him to be challenged! I want him to be humiliated after knowing nothing but winning, or befriend someone he would normally look down on. He's still going to be exetremely annoying and childish on the surface, but I'd like him to learn through experience how far is too far.
