TAGS — Usually the twolegs keep their fires far from camp. Usually they stay in their own tiny campsite, and the smell of acrid smoke and ash stays confined there, and Ospreypaw doesn't have to suffer the smell in her own den. This is what she's been told, at least, about the twoleg fires. It seems that she's been told wrong.

The eel-slim, silver-pelted apprentice slinks out of her den. Twilight purple skies are clouded by plumes of white smoke, reaching, reaching, reaching up to the stars. Ospreypaw doesn't much care for StarClan, but... what would it mean if the smoke blotted them out completely? The eclipse seemed to spell only doom for the clan cats. Could twolegs interrupt that connection in the same way? She's not sure. She tries not to think about it, instead watching the flickering of red embers from across the shoreline, hidden and then unhidden and then hidden again by swaying reeds.

Another cat has joined them in their watching. "Don't they know to keep away from here?" the apprentice grumbles to them, an edge to their voice. Most cats would understand her tone to be spiteful, angry; only the ones closest to her would recognize the sliver of fear in her words. After all, Troutsnout hadn't come back from wherever she'd been — and though Ospreypaw is much more eager to attribute the fault of her disappearance to whatever WindClanner had dared get near their border, she can't ignore the increased presence of twolegs around their territory. "I wish they'd all just leave." She wrinkles her nose against the acrid smoke stench, tall, thin ears flicking restlessly.

/ trout for bingo!

The young warrior sits outside of the warriors den, trying to focus on his nearly-eaten trout that lays in front of his paws. Foxtail loves fish— and not just in regards to fishing, fish can taste great too. Fish has such a unique taste when compared to land prey, and he should be enjoying his meal, but he can't tonight. He wants to focus on the delicate flavor of the trout— they have a nutty taste, and a sweet undertone. But it's hard to taste that delicate flavor when acrid smoke clogs his nostrils, and he takes his last bite of his meal. He swallows it, and his gaze looms over to the twilight sky; ears flattening at the white smoke that clouds a beautiful sunset.

...This certainly makes Foxtail feel uneasy. He knows that twoleg activity increases in Newleaf, he has experienced them before, but this was too close to comfort. That smoke is way too close to camp to be from the twoleg camp out in their territory, they certainly wouldn't be smelling the smoke if it were that far away. He pulls his gaze away from the smoke covered sky, his gaze falling on the young Ospreypaw. He notices how she too, is watching the smoke rise to silverpelt. He finds his way over to her, his eyes briefly glancing at the drifting embers in the distance.

"Don't they know to keep away from here?" The apprentice grumbles to Foxtail, and his ears pin back for a brief moment at the angry tone that leaves her maw. Ospreypaw can be a little bit of a handful; she is quite opinionated and speaks her mind.... even if her words aren't exactly the kindest. She can be quite stubborn from what he's seen, but she is a hard-worker too. He wants to give her some understanding.... as this is her first time experiencing twolegs hands on. It can be overwhelming.... no one in the clan is particularly happy about it. "...It's unusual for their fire be so c-close," He mews with a slight frown, his eyes shifting back onto the white smoke that clouds the sky. His nose twitches again at the acrid smell of the smoke, his ears pinning back to his cranium. "Twolegs seem to go wherever they want," He answers the question with a flick of his tail, "I-I don't think they care..."

"I wish they'd all just leave."

A sigh escapes from his maw. "Me too," He nods tiredly, his nose twitching again at the invasive smell. "I-I couldn't agree with you more there..."

It felt like the issue of twolegs present had become an overwhelming nightmare in a few short days. The kittens were becoming entangled with their findings, remnants of their activity evident in the river. Their clumsy kits grew close to camp and threatened what shaky trust Hazecloud already had in finding any peace. The warmth of new-leaf had quickly shed it's smile and now bared its fangs at RiverClan.

Ospreypaw had recognized once again, sinister evidence from the twolegs. The clouded scent of sulphur had already reached her senses and she tried her best to subtly keep watch as puffs of smog encroached star-studded skies. This wouldn't be the first time, as Foxtail had said, to see them wield such strange elements. Even still the queen held some concern, considering WindClan's moors had become burnt to char and ash not long ago.

"What I wouldn't give up to make them all just... disappear." The queen sighed, flicking her tail closer as she plucked stray scales from her fur. "Twolegs have always caused the Clans trouble, never the other way around. Would it hurt them to leave us alone?"

She couldn't imagine taking any joy in the odd behaviors they had. Making themselves companions of monsters and destroying their lands with trash and nois!

Twolegs had always been a disruptive and loud bunch of kittens. They never seemed to take anything into account like the world around them. Selfish really, they were, and they wondered what went through their minds to make fires, make loud noise or shoot off loud banging things? Magpiepaw didnt understand completely and they couldnt say otherwise either. Twolegs truly didnt have an answer for their behavior and sometimes they wished they spoke twoleg to be able to tell them to leave the clans alone. Though that was a far away dream of another life time.

The smell of sulfur was strong on the wind and the smoke nearly clouded the entirety of the sky. Magpiepaw couldnt help but look up at it billowing about and wondered if Troutsnout could see it. Did their sister even know what time it was? She had been missing for a while now and they didnt know what to do with themselves. Though they tried to not let it linger as it would only cease in sobbing like a lost kit. Warriors’ didnt cry.

The chocolate and black chimera padded up behind Hazecloud as her, Ospreypaw and Foxtail complain about their wish for twolegs to go away. They couldnt agree more and nodded along with the rest of them, “Sometimes i wish they spoke cat so we could just tell them to bug off or something” They admitted softly and flexed their claws against the soft ground.

Hazecloud shares wanting to be left alone, which seems to be a common option amongst the other two. Magpiepaw wanted them to leave them alone as all they seemed to do was cause issues. One after another, like they where blissfully unaware that things lived in the forest they seemingly disrespect all the time.

Of A Monster

𓆝 . ° ✦ Mosspool had been watching long before Ospreypaw padded over. The smoke had grabbed her attention from the moment she had stepped out of the warrior den. As her clanmates discussed their disdain for twolegs in muttered tones, she watched the smoke silently; completely wrapped up in her thoughts.

Foxtail commented that it was unusual for the fires to be this close, and she nodded. "It is indeed." Mosspool murmured, pulling her tail closer to herself anxiously. Her eyes narrowed as she stared at the plumes of white smoke. Between the twoleg contraption she had pulled from the river and now this she had seen altogether too much of twolegs as of late; it worried her. She could not help but wonder what was causing them to be so much bolder than normal. Twolegs were a danger, to be certain, but usually they were a distant one. Apprentices needed to be warned away from twolegplace, but so long as they all heeded that warning they would be safe.

Even after all these moons, she still shuddered to remember what had happened to Ashpaw. If twolegs were venturing this close to camp, the same thing could happen to any one of her clanmates. "We will have to keep a close eye on them." She declared suddenly. "I will talk to Sm-" Her voice wavered. It was only for a moment, but it wavered. "Lichenstar. I will talk to Lichenstar about this." The statement was made with the same confidence as though she had never misspoken at all.

    MOSSPOOL — SHE/HER ・ 17 MOONS ・ WARRIOR of RIVERCLAN ・ PENNED BY @empyrean !
Longhair black tabby with deep green eyes. Mosspaw is a very tall molly, standing a head above most cats her age. She has a slim, willowy physique with subtle musculature built up from a lifetime of constant training that lends itself well to swimming and running. Long, thick brown fur falls over her form with tabby patterning across it. Her eyes are a vibrant green, and shine with a bright intelligence and confidence.

જ➶ Wavering embers and smoke fill the air. The stench of it making her remember when Windclan's territory had been set ablaze. Something she knew she relished in considering their horrible deeds. She had been horrified when Smokestar had helped them at all. She thinks they should have found their own way out. Wasting fish on them. Her ears flatten and she shakes her head only drawn in my the smell of smoke and fire. Her friend is there and she casually settles beside Magpiepaw, gaze narrowed on the fire that hides within the reeds. Twolegs. Can they set their territory on fire too? The idea worries her but she doesn't voice it. Instead she focuses on what her clanmates say and she agrees. Sje wishes they could drive them out like any other animal that invades their home. But twolegs are smarter to a degree and they kidnap cats without remorse. "They certainly are troublesome. Why now do they decide to ruin everything?"

Her voice is sour sounding. The prey is running well and everything should be good for the clan. But then all of these invaders show up and she sighs roughly. Leaning slightly on Magpiepaw her gaze flicks away amd her tail curls against herself. She hears Mosspool's slip up and it makes her scoff, glancing at them before looking away again. "I can not even understand cats that want to live with them with how they mess everything up."

Fogshore watches from his place, laying on his side next to Foxtail. He was tired. Perking an ear up, rotating it to listen to nearby clanmates and their murmurs of disdain about Twolegs. He lifted his head slightly, from where it rested on his forepaws.

He tastes the acrid smoke in his nostrils, as he looks up at the twilight sky. He turns his gaze away from the smoke-clogged sky, resting his head back on his paws. Hearing Magpiepaw's own input on Twolegs. "Wish they spoke cat." He sleepily blinks, as he curls his feathered tail around his mismatched frame. "They are quite… troublesome beings." He mumbles out with a sigh. He flicks an ear towards Mosspool's slip up, and hums in agreement.

Even before he was a Riverclanner, he lived with nice Twolegs for a while but he had eventually left them. But these Twolegs who takes cats from their homes… are a strange bunch he'd ever seen. He doesn't get their ways at all.

When the smell of smoke bathes her tongue, Eveningkit thinks WindClan is on fire again. She thinks of Smokestar, his decision to help the moor-dwellers even when many would have turned them away; thinks of strangers invading the territory that is hers in all sense of the word except sight, because she has yet to see it all for herself. At least they didn't cause trouble... or at least she hadn't heard.

The moment she steps outside the nursery and trails after Hazecloud, Eveningkit realizes this is something else. A mix of warriors and apprentices gather to keep an eye out on the far distance- or rather near distance, since they all worry about how close the Twolegs have been getting.

Ah. So it's them again.

Eveningkit can't decide which is worse; other Clans or Twolegs. At least the former are all the same species so they can talk... even if in some circumstances, they like to talk more with their teeth and claws. One cannot force understanding into the naked tall creatures. Their weird legs stumble over anything, clumsy as ever, but their huge paws are still dangerous.

"Why don't we deal with them, then?" Eveningkit asks. She's sure it's been asked before, or so she hopes, because no way they all just allow the Twolegs to trample all over them. But still... it doesn't make sense that they have to just accept this as reality, even when fires have been lit this close to their home. "Can't we just drive them out? Or what if the Clans moved somewhere else?"

"FATE IS A SUNDRESS" ˚୭ .ೃ⁀➷ tags ── THE SMELL OF smoke is, as it is to everyone else, immediately alarming. As it piques the attention of others dotted across the camp, Dizzypaw thinks it smart to slink her way to follow them - first to know, and all.

Hazel eyes watch smoke climb up to the heavens - it's an odd sort of fascination that Dizzypaw finds she now has. It's an oddly beautiful thing to watch coupled with the pretty tones of twilight. But Foxtail and Mosspool are right: that is entirely too close. She knows of Windclan's fire, and she can only imagine the travesty it would bring to rampage through their territory. Would the river do anything should their camp catch? Could they do anything? Dizzypaw isn't sure she wants to think on that.

She blinks at Eveningkit as her question touches Dizzy's ears - it feels solid and understandable. Why can't they? She's sure there's more to it than just the immediately apparent. Twolegs are much bigger than even several cats together; no outcome is guaranteed. "I wish," she breathes. Subconsciously Dizzypaw finds her eyes settling upon Magpiepaw, so with a pang of sympathy she remembers Troutsnout's disappearance.

Her poor friend. Instead of words she offers a sigh.

Somewhere, Dizzypaw briefly contemplates that maybe the Twolegs were here first, and the clan cats are instead encroaching on their territory. But that's a stupid and whimsical thought and she tries to push it from her head before she develops any sort of true sympathy.

"How close do you think it is?" she offers to the conversation. Her perception of depth is obscured by the other cats and the reeds waving for the evening breeze.

Cats are disappearing from RiverClan, the way they had from SkyClan moons ago. Iciclefang remembers the blank stares and pinched expressions from their pine-dwelling neighbors across the river. On their mouths were questions that had no real answers. Have you seen…? The answer had always been no. It had been no when she’d searched for Ashpaw, too. The tortoiseshell queen sits amongst her Clanmates with a perturbed expression, her nostrils flaring at the stench of the Twolegs’ smoke and flame. “Too close for comfort,” she murmurs to Dizzypaw’s query.

Cats grumble about wishing they could rid themselves of the Twolegs, and Iciclefang offers a low murmur of agreement. Little Eveningkit pads close to her mother and asks, “Why don’t we deal with them, then? Can’t we just drive them out?”

Iciclefang’s eyes darken. “Twolegs are not like dogs or foxes or badgers,” she explains to Eveningkit in a low voice. “Twolegs are bigger, smarter, swifter. A kick from one of their back paws is enough to shatter a cat’s bones.” Almost subconsciously, she reaches toward her ribcage with a white-tipped paw.

bio ₊˚✧ ゚. When he lumbers out of the apprentices den, noticing the exit of Ospreypaw and Midnightpaw, and curiosity driving his paws he's quick to join the growing group. Quickly surmising there has to be a reason they're together. He lifts his head to look, and at the wretched sight, peels his lips back to hiss. The distaste shared is felt by Bitepaw, brewing something nasty in his chest.

More than anything, he's offended by the stench. His face is more sour than usual, nose squishing against the rancid stench that puts his teeth on edge. He'd like to dig his claws and teeth into the twolegs who dared intrude. "If I had a choice I'd show them." His voice shakes with not at all contained anger, it's not a prospect that would ever go his way, but watching the black smoke crawl up into the sky calls to him to fight something.

⋅˚₊‧ ଳ ‧₊˚ ⋅ He lay among the others; he too was one of the many eyes peering into the sky. His ears were catching little bits here and there of the chatter of his clanmates. The lilac kit resented his head along his paws, still watching the smoke disparate against the familiar dark sky. Twolegs. Dawnkit wondered what it would be like for Twolegs to understand clan life and listen. Were they around at the time of the Three Great Clans? Were they still running around like birds, causing trouble?

Bitepaw’s confident words caused a shutter to go down his spine. Dawnkit looked at him in horror. “ But they could really hurt you, and what if more come to defend their clanmate?” Riverclan would, of course, attack back. Hopefully broken bones are quick to heal for the apprentice’s sake. “If we were big like lions or tigers, we could definitely chase the two legs off for good.” Dawnkit pondered a world where cats were unstoppable, like two legs are now.
