never really over || council meeting

〕The herbs that had once decorated nearly every pelt in the clan had worn off, replaced by healed external scars. It had brought her satisfaction to see the ribs of both of the clans that had stolen from them while they were at the Gathering. She hoped that at least their kits were not hungry, but she would be lying if she claimed seeing the two clans clearly having harder Leafbares didn't bring her some sort of cruel joy. Perhaps if they hadn't exchanged in bloodshed, then their efforts could have been put into hunting what land they already had, rather than defending more land than they needed. But she had sat back and licked wounds for long enough. Their trips to Fourtrees were looked down upon, and even she knew it would only be a matter of time before the other clans retaliated. The sooner they could get their land back, the better.

"We must take back what is ours." Her voice was firm as she began, sweeping her gaze across the room to meet each of them. "I believe we should start with the piece Shadowclan stole first. Both Riverclan and Shadowclan look hungry, but we cannot risk four battles in Leafbare...I'm sure our stocks are already suffering from the last two...Gentlestorm, how are our herbs supplies?" The leader turned to look to the Medicine Cat, hoping he wouldn't shoot down the idea all together. They needed to take back at least one piece. Starclan had blessed them with better than usual hunting, but their luck would surely only last so long.

a longhaired red tabby with low white and green eyes. flamewhisker's fur is a vibrant hue of red, riddled with thick classic tabby markings. her fur is medium in length, and she has a large, feathery tail. her chest, belly, tail tip, and her paws are dipped white. flamewhisker's eyes are a dark, deep shade of green. her shoulder has a large scar on it from a fight with a dog. she also has a shredded ear from a disagreement with a loner during her time alone before joining thunderclan. on particularly cold days, or sometimes before a major weather change, she will walk with a slight limp from her shoulder injury.

༄.𖥔 ݁ ˖ — Gentlestorm sits near his apprentice offering her a small bump of his shoulder then turns his attention towards Flamestar and offers a flick of his ear. A frown pulls at his lips when she asks about how their herb supplies are and he parts his jaws to speak "We lost... a lot of marigold... but Cottonsprig has been... more than kind in... giving me marigold... I have... plenty to spare..." There's a pause as he thinks about the medicine cat meeting that had happened a few days ago and he spares his apprentice a quick glance. He doesn't know what she will think of him for revealing such things as an advantage, they wished to dig their claws into the back of Thunderclan and aid Riverclan then that was their choice in the end. He would return sharp claws and fangs in turn if that's what they truly wished.

"And now... it would be the best time... to strike... I have vital information..." His voice is rough and swept his gaze over his fellow councilmates seeing how they would react to the words that would slip from his maw, "Ternstar... is a fresh... leader... and Shadowclan has lost.... their longtime medicine cat, Starlingheart... leaving them with just a medicine cat." His pupils narrow into dangerous slits as he tries to think about the kittens and queens that could do with more food, the warriors and apprentices that push themselves to the bone daily, and he tries not to think about the several times that he and Starlingheart had been there for each other.

The way his heart seems to squeeze at the memory of Berryheart dying and Starlingheart offering to walk alongside Gentlestorm to the medicine cat gathering, how she had hid behind him when tensions rose between leaders, and how they comforted each other when Magpiepaw died. It swallows the snarl that wants to leave its maw and the grizzly tom turns to its leader once more, this is where its loyalty lies... Not to someone that was its friend, she's dead now, and there isn't a single tie to Shadowclan that the medicine cat cares about.

It shuts away its heart and continues with a low growl "We'll take... back what is ours... If not for the battle with Shadowclan... then Riverclan... we can call... upon the aid of Windclan... ambush them just the same as they did us." It's only fair to retaliate in the same way or so, that's what it believes.

Flamestar summons them; like shadows stretching away from open flame, they drape across her den, their eyes gleaming with expectation. Their leader wastes no time: her chin is set, lifted with the ThunderClan pride Raccoonstripe admires in her, in all of their council. "We must take back what is ours." He says nothing, exhibiting patience he does not normally have, but he dips his head in silent agreement. Flamestar recommends they start with the territory ShadowClan had stolen from them. The tabby lets a growl rumble loosely in his chest, though he contains his snarl — for the moment.

The ginger she-cat looks to Gentlestorm and Hopepaw, her green gaze shining. She asks them how their herb supplies are after two invasions, after the kittings and the illnesses. Gentlestorm rasps, "We lost a lot of marigold, but Cottonsprig has been more than kind. I have plenty to spare." Raccoonstripe's whiskers twitch with unspoken approval. The medicine cats are even ready for us to make our move.

Gentlestorm murmurs that he has vital information. Raccoonstripe flicks his single dark eye over to the healer, waiting. "Ternstar is a fresh leader, and ShadowClan has lost their longtime medicine cat, Starlingheart." The dark tabby smiles grimly, sinking his claws into the barren floor of Flamestar's den. "So they'll have no one but an apprentice to heal their wounds," he muses, his tail tip twitching. "StarClan has shown the forest who they favor between the two of us. We have grown stronger despite our losses, while ShadowClan just keeps losing."

Raccoonstripe turns his face toward Flamestar again. "I agree with you. And Gentlestorm is right. We should strike while they're weak and ill-prepared." He snorts, his fur bristling. "They're awfully snide, taunting us across the border like they are. It's time ThunderClan puts them in their place. We should strike them where it hurts, in their own territory." He lifts his muzzle defiantly. "Let them try to keep our strongest warriors out of their camp."

⊱⊰ The idea of being a part of the leader's council is one that Hopepaw can hardly wrap her head around. Sure, she is only here because she's Gentlestorm's apprentice, and her voice means little when pitted against those of the older lead warriors, the deputy, the leader—but just being able to sit and listen in to the most powerful ThunderClanners discuss their next move is a privilege she appreciates. Once, her father would have lent his opinions to these meetings, wouldn't he? Batwing had been a lead warrior, a trusted council member of Howlingstar's. And Roeflame… Roeflame is the deputy. Hopepaw has large pawsteps to fill here, but she attempts to sit up a bit straighter. A cautious glance is thrown in her uncle's direction as Flamestar asks how the herb stores are, but instead of a bleak response Gentlestorm has only conviction to offer the leader. Her plan is to launch an attack, to take back what ShadowClan stole from them, and Gentlestorm has given her his word that both he and Hopepaw are prepared.

Without thinking, the lilac-furred apprentice nods her agreement. "We can handle it." Should she be speaking up at all, she wonders, but pushes the thought aside. If she weren't meant to speak, surely she wouldn't have been invited in the first place. Her confidence falters, however, when Gentlestorm mentions Starlingheart. It seems cruel, to exploit the death of a medicine cat like that. Starlingheart had never done anything bad to them, had she? And Marblepaw hadn't, either. Marblepaw even seemed almost… nice. But no matter how nice they are, they aren't ThunderClan—so Hopepaw can't feel bad for this. Right? She grimaces, but meets her uncle's gaze with approval as he speaks. ShadowClan has to understand that they can't keep pushing ThunderClan around. They can't keep hurting anyone Hopepaw cares about. And she's a part of making sure they won't, now.

Raccoonstripe seems to agree, adding on that StarClan must disapprove of ShadowClan and RiverClan's actions. Both the clans had seemed weaker, hungrier, at the gathering, in spite of their stolen hunting grounds. Maybe they should have focused on hunting their own territory, instead of getting hurt in battles they didn't need to fight. Bitterness curls in her gut like a viper, prepared to strike indeed. The one-eyed lead warrior seems reckless in suggesting that they attack ShadowClan's camp, when all Flamestar wants is to reclaim stolen ThunderClan territory… but that isn't an argument that Hopepaw should get involved in. The adults know better than her with regards to battle, so she stays silent and observes their discussion.

⋆˖⁺‧₊☽◯☾₊‧⁺˖⋆ nightbird hums approval to flamestar's ideas, tail twitching restlessly behind her. they had wallowed as the victim of these attacks for too long. since apparently no one has learned by now, they'd prove once again that thunderclan didn't take such trifling with a bared belly.

she's pleased that both gentlestorm and hopepaw seem confident, her brow raising at the formers slice of gossip. shadowclan was left with a whelp to heal them. they were in a weak spot with a brand new leader, one who seemed to brandish an ego that rivaled even cicadastar's. they'd send starclan's great chosen one right back to them as justice for mirestar's crime.

nightbird finds herself disagreeing towards the end of gentlestorm's remarks, when raccoonstripe speaks, the tip of his muzzle jerked confidently upwards. there was no need to ambush either clan. they weren't worth the breath it would take to form such a plan. she sends her mate a quick look, inwardly questioning his sincerity. it was a foolish idea, one the whole forest condemned sootstar for. "we're enacting justice, not an assault." their camp, with new terrain and mewling kits. if the fact that shadowclan would be at advantage there wasn't irking enough, the latter thought makes her ears flick with discomfort. "everyone knows they stand no chance in a fair fight. we can prove - again - that at every turn, shadowclan fails to stand on their own."

the lead warrior turns to flamestar, tail tapping with fizzling annoyance spurred on by the two toms. "how soon? shadowclan is unstable now. ternstar and starlingheart aside, they can't even get along with their clanmates long enough to save face at the borders." nightbird asserts, anxious to get this battle done and over with so that they could move onto drowning riverclan's insatiable pride. "hit them while they're weak and we'll have the strength to get sunningrocks back sooner."

leafhusk hopes their children are hungry. she wants their enemies to finally learn that unnecessary violence won't gurantee survival; every fallen body had died in vain. they weep for the lost as hunger stirs in their stomachs like a stalking predator. thunderclan's council stands planning their next move.

gentlestorm and raccoonstripe show their teeth first, lips pulled back while they suggest an ambush. men. she thinks distastefully, tail-tip flicking irritably behind her. it's morbidly satisfying to hear that their medicine cat finally croaked, leaving behind an apprentice who probably still has kitten fur on her pelt. but thunderclan needs to have tact if they were to gain back their territory… and, besides, she'd lose her mind if she slipped into marshland gunk.

her eyes briefly turn to hopepaw, their lilac-furred wallflower in a den full of angry flames. first an abundance of kits, and now a war– this girl will be fully trained before the new kits can walk. "we're not ambushing them. i'd like to not have half of our warriors in the medicine cat's den for another season." she comments with a scoff. leafhusk's head nods towards to nightbird, agreeing with the smoke's sensible approach. her gaze settles on flamestar, waiting for her response to nightbird's questions.

When Flamestar summons the entire council to the depths of her den, Roeflame brushes past the lichen with invisible sparks of anticipation itching at her paw pads. The rosetted warrior knew Flamestar had no intention of letting the two enemy Clans keep their claims on ThunderClans territory; the sight of ragged fur and ribs at last moons gathering had caught Roeflame's eye just as it did her leaders, and the news of yet another rocky leadership change within the marshlands had seemed like a sign from StarClan themselves.

Seating herself, Roeflame tries not to dwell too heavily on the empty spot next to her, instead she trains her gaze on Flamestar, celadon hues brimming with bright curiosity. Thinly-healed scars that gouged pathways down the deputy's chest and ribs served as a bitter reminder of ThunderClans loss that night, but when their auburn leader finally speaks, Roeflame knows she will gladly bear more when the time came: we must take back what is ours. Beginning with ShadowClan.

When eyes are turned onto Gentlestorm, her expression is steely. Giving up valuable information in the same breath as his blessing, Roeflame's chin tilts with quiet approval. From the mountainous healers flank, her daughter echoes a small agreement- Roeflame tries not to let her pride derail her train of thought. "To go through so much change in the dead of leaf-bare… ShadowClan is more vulnerable than ever." The ticked deputy hums on the tail of Raccoonstripes remarks. Though, what the older Lead Warrior says next draws Roeflame's brow bones together in slight surprise; let them try to keep our strongest warriors out of their camp.

Nightbird and Leafhusk are quick to shut the idea down, but Roeflame surprises even herself when she shakes finds herself shaking her head in contemplative disagreement with the two mollies. "It would certainly send a message," she begins slowly, eyes traveling to Flamestar. "Mirestar stood on ThunderClan land and proclaimed it theirs. Even if we aren't so bold as to attack their camp, we need to make it clear that ThunderClan does not forget their brashness." The brassed she-cats tail-tip lashes slightly from where it rests at her paws. "What is the point in enacting justice without a strong reminder as to why it shouldn't have been done in the first place? Otherwise we might as well open ourselves up for another game of tug-a-war."

〕Just as she had expected, he confirmed the excessive loss of marigold. But, Cottonsprig had been generous enough to share some from her stock..thank Starclan. Everything was falling in their favor, more signs of approval from their ancestors. Had he claimed to not have enough, she would have decided to wait. Bloodshed was a given with any battle, and the last thing she wished to do was lead her warriors to battle, with no way to heal their wounds. "Perfect." was all she could say before he continued. "Ternstar... is a fresh... leader... and Shadowclan has lost.... their longtime medicine cat, Starlingheart... leaving them with just a medicine cat" The slits that formed in their Medicine Cat's gaze was hard to miss after he shared the information, and she turned her head slightly in each direction to meet each of her council member's gazes, curious at how they each reacted to the news. Each clan had experienced the unfortunate pain of not having a fully trained Medicine Cat at some point or another. Riverclan being the most recent...specifically right before they launched an attack to steal Sunningrocks. If Shadowclan thought she would agree to letting Gentlestorm finish out their Medicine Cat's training, they were sorely mistaken. As wrong as it may feel to take advantage of them being down, Gentlestorm was right...now was the time to attack.

Raccoonstripe's suggestion takes her off guard. An attack in Shadowclan's camp...her eyes narrowed curiously, but she didn't shoot the suggestion down right away. "Roaringsun came to me a few sunrises ago...he suggested something similar. He suggested sending messengers to Shadowclan's camp, having them declare we will be moving our borders." She said before turning to listen to what everyone else had to say. First she went to Hopepaw, then to Nightbird. The black smoke was against the idea of an attack on their camp, and she couldn't say she blamed her. She wasn't even sure where the Shadowclan camp was for one. "hit them while they're weak and we'll have the strength to get sunningrocks back sooner." Flamestar dipped her muzzle slightly in agreement, then turned to the next voice, Leafhusk.

Another agreement against the attack on Shadowclan's camp. "i'd like to not have half of our warriors in the medicine cat's den for another season." Neither would she. In fact, the last thing she wished to do was launch an attack at all. They shouldn't be in this situation, not again...ever since the uprising against Skyclaw, too much blood had been spilled. Violence was being all too common, but she couldn't allow the other clans to look down on Thunderclan. They must retake their territory...if they didn't, nothing was stopping the other clans to following.

Too her surprise, her deputy was in agreement with Raccoonstripe. "It would certainly send a message". It would indeed, but an all out attack in the middle of Shadowclan's territory would be too risky. Their warriors were not trained to fight in the marshlands, and they did not know the territory. They would have the element of surprise for a fact, but Shadowclan would hold the rest of the advantages. "I thought Mirestar's head was too big for their body...but they've only replaced them with someone even more bee-brained." Roeflame continued, asking what the point of justice was without a reminder as to why it shouldn't have been done in the first place. There was truth to her words. The fiery tabby remained quiet for a few heart beats while she thought, and her gaze drifted to the lichen draped entrance. Out there, their apprentices slept hungry while the overflowing nursery remained as fed as they could be. In each of the leafbares she had spent in Thunderclan, she couldn't recall the nursery ever being so full while snow still covered the ground. Thunderclan needed to send a message, one the other clans wouldn't forget for moons to come.

"I agree...we must send a message." She paused, flexing her claws in the dirt underpaw. "At the next gathering, I can declare that we will be returning our Shadowclan border back to it's proper placing the next sunrise. If they choose to retaliate, then they will be met with a large battle patrol. If not, then we will save our herbs for our attack on Riverclan."
