camp YOU WON'T FORGET MY NAME // 6/1 MEETING

The sun is beginning to set when Howlingstar crests the Highrock, the camp bathed in the soft glow of twilight. A smile graces her muzzle as she gazes out at the buzzing ravine. Kits tumble and play outside of the nursery; apprentices show each other battle moves their mentors taught them that day; warriors share tongues over a light dinner. Despite any recent roadbumps, life goes on in ThunderClan. It brings her old heart peace to see, and today is another reminder of how they keep growing. "Let all cats old enough to catch their own prey join here beneath the Highrock for a clan meeting!"

She watches as queens usher kits into the nursery, warriors and apprentices alike come forward to find their seats. Her eyes seek out one particular pelt, though - one of ash and flames. When she spots it, she smiles softly and calls out, "Today, we welcome a new warrior to the clan. Sunshinepaw, come forward." She watches as their marred face pushes their way through the crowd until the apprentice stands before them all. The child of Rabbitnose and Sunfreckle, the young cat bears quite the mantle on his shoulders; his father had once been a lead warrior on her council, moons ago before his death. Her gaze is soft as she looks down at him. Sure, he has never been the most...motivated, apprentice, but she can see he has Sunfreckle's kind, soft heart. She looks forward to giving him his name tonight. "I, Howlingstar, leader of ThunderClan, call upon StarClan to look down on this apprentice. They have trained hard to understand the ways of your noble code, and I commend him to you as a warrior in his turn. Sunshinepaw, do you promise to uphold the Warrior Code and to protect and defend your clan, even at the cost of your life?" She looks down at him now, awaiting his vow.

The sun is setting on Mousenose and Sunshinepaw's time together as mentor and apprentice, and the pale tortoiseshell warrior basks in its red glow. Tired green eyes light upon a twisted maw, pale, fluffed-out fur, and a gentle and rare smile blossoms on her white muzzle. Mousenose sits tall, proud, beside her sibling, her apprentice. She nudges him as he makes his way to the front of the procession: "Get on up there! You've earned this!"

After a heartbeat, Mousenose tilts their face toward the sky, where the stars have yet to appear. Is Sunfreckle watching her—is he proud that at last, she has managed to shape Sunshinepaw into a fine warrior? Is he proud that the two of them have managed to get along at least well enough to make it to their warrior ceremony? Mousenose's eyes gloss with tears, but she manages to keep her composure. It's her special day, too, after all. She straightens her spine and looks at Howlingstar, pride clear and strong in her features.

‧₊˚❀༉‧₊˚. — The pale healer only takes a few strides to slip out from his den and brush against the ferns that led to his home, the call of Howlingstar is enough to make his ears angle forward. Gentlestorm settles into the crowd with a low breath slipping from parted jaws, he lends his ears to the leader so that he may listen, and Sunshinepaw's name slips from the black tabby's maw. It makes him think about how the young cat had asked if they could be his apprentice after sorting two piles of herbs for him and perhaps in another life, the ghostly pelted tom would've taken him as an apprentice but given everything that's happened and how stressful his role truly was... He didn't wish to put such a weight onto Sunshinepaw's shoulders especially when being a warrior seemed a lot easier or at least, that's what he believes. Perhaps the warrior to-be would thank him later for this or if he didn't then he would wholeheartedly understand and not hold it against the other. Today's a special one and he hopes that the red tabbied tom that was his friend would be able to see his kitten becoming a warrior.

"You'll make a phenomenal warrior." He says under his breath awaiting to hear the familiar 'I do' from the dappled apprentice and he spares a glance in the direction of Mousenose, he gives a brief dip of his helm if she were to catch his gaze. Gentlestorm focuses onto Howlingstar once more beginning to think about in a few moons that most of the kittens from the nursery would graduate and move into the apprentice den, his heart briefly aches thinking about Hopekit and Coalkit rising to their paws to receive their name and mentor. It only aches more when his mind thinks of Bravepaw and Doepaw along with the rest of her littermates becoming warriors, they were all growing up so fast before his eyes. Too soon. The thought saddens him yet he straightens his posture only to tilt his head upwards to look to his leader that stood upon Highrock.

WE WERE PLAYING IN THE SAND

orangepaw isn't sure what it means to be a good warrior. he hasn't done too much training with butterflytuft and he's really not upset about it, truly, but he still wonders what that means. what did do to become a warrior? was that what all clan cats wanted? to be a warrior? as he stands and watches, his head tilts to the side. he wonders what that would mean for him. would he be a good fight? a good hunter? both? neither? and what about climbing treats? or running? he doesn't know. he's not upset, seriously, but he is curious. he hopes that whatever he does, his mama will be proud of him. he steps closer to gentlestorm, gently prodding him with his paw and a rather characteristic smile on his face.

"hey, gentlestorm. when the meeting is over can i ask you something? or another something I think?"

he hopes he's not being a bother. but above all, he trusts the medicine cat the most. he reminds him the most like his mother. he misses her and he hopes she will find him soon.

Reactions: GENTLESTORM
Sunshinepaw thinks that it is by StarClan's grace that he managed to pass the assessments his sister presented him. The squirrel he caught had to have been injured prior, or Mousenose favored him with questions that even the kitten population could answer. Regardless, he had done it, and it seems no one wishes to voice against his succession. His prize is to be honored marginally more, to live and breathe alongside strong, sturdy warriors rather than a step beneath them. Tonight, he will hold his vigil -

He thinks of his siblings. He thinks of how he is alone. Of them all, he imagined that Pigeonpaw would be up here first - maybe Rainbowpaw, wherever his multicolored sibling disappeared to. Emberpaw, too, for the tabby was ever bright like the rest of them, if not more capable. But he's alone. A few moons ahead of the few friends he has made, too...

"Hmph -" he clears his throat shortly after Mousenose ushers him forward. For the show of the crowd, he offers her an awkward grin, squaring his shoulders to meet the Clan leader half way. He had not noticed how large he had grown, truly - standing before Howlingstar in her older years makes him wonder if he is the epitome of health (he's not,) or if growing old simply means shrinking again (not necessarily.)

"I do, Howlin'star," Sunshinepaw says, though he has his doubts on how well he can maintain this act of succeeding. He does not voice his concern, simply waiting for her to continue.

Howlingstar's call nearly kicks in muscle memory over conscious thought, Roeflame's new responsibility of being perched outside the nursery still a habit the rosetted she-cat couldn't quite conquer, yet.
Her herding is quick, unwilling to hear the inevitable pleas to stick around and watch. When her clowder of kittens is safely tucked away, Roeflame only partially ducks into the nursery herself, settling against the mouth of the den as Sunshinepaw is called forward.
Sentiment blinks heavy in Roeflame's eyes as she watches the apprentice trek forward, not prepared for the wrench seeing the tom make his way to the leader throws in her heart. Her eyes instinctively move to Mousenose before attempting to seek Freckleflame out in the crowd, Sunshinepaw would be great, she's known him since his paws only knew to toddle, but the bittersweet breath she holds is for what the young tom has lost along the way. With a soft clearing of her throat, Roeflame shifts in her place, eager to see what Howlingstar has come up with for the apprentice.

With Mousenose behind him, cheering him on, the apprentice makes their vow. Howlingstar smiles, eyes crinkling with joy. She just knows Sunfreckle is watching this moment. "Then by the powers of StarClan, I give you your warrior name." The she-cat leaps down to a boulder about halfway to the ground, then completes her descent with another jump. When she pads forward to stand in front of the young cat, she must tilt her head upwards to look at him. Stars, how he's grown! "Sunshinepaw, from this moment on you will be known as Sunshinespot." Named of course for his pale cream patches reminiscent of the sun's rays. But his name brings to mind something else; a warm stone to relax on, a sunning spot for clanmates to bask in. That is what the cat has always been in the clan: a spot of warmth. "StarClan honors your kindness and strength, and we welcome you as a full warrior of ThunderClan." Mouth quirking in a small smile of amusement, she must beckon for him to bend his head so she can rest her muzzle on top of it. When she backs away, she begins to chant his new name on her way back to her perch. "Sunshinespot! Sunshinespot!"

As soon as she returns to her place on the Highrock, she next beckons forth a kit who sits expectantly outside of the nursery, the only one let outside. "Deerkit, come forward." Once an abandoned orphan, now a clan cat through and through. Though he's always been a quiet kit, she hopes apprenticeship will bring him out of his shell a bit. "Deerkit, you have reached the age of six moons, and it is time for you to be apprenticed. From this day on, until you receive your warrior name, you will be known as Deerpaw. Your mentor will be Lily Pad. I hope she will pass down all she knows on to you." She seeks out her daughter in the crowd, affection gleaming in green eyes. For all she herself mourns for Wolfwind, she knows as well as anyone that the lead warrior's mother grieves more. She knows what it's like to lose a child, after all. She hopes being a mentor will at least help to give her daughter something to focus on, something to wake up everyday for. "Lily Pad, you are ready to take on an apprentice. You are a hard-working, loyal warrior, and I expect you to pass on all you know to Deerpaw." As the clan begins to chant Deerpaw's new name, she watches as the two move to touch noses at the front of the clan. Smiling, she looks back out at the clan and waits for everything to quiet down a bit. Before releasing them to their nests for the night, she wants to touch on recent happenings.

"I want to talk about the organized patrol to purposely hunt on SkyClan's territory." She doesn't need to look at Raccoonstripe; she has already talked everything out with him. She is talking to the whole clan, now. "Mistakes happen. Life goes on. But let me be clear that I want no trouble with Orangestar or with her clan. I have spoken with her and we've come to an understanding. Thankfully, SkyClan will not retaliate. Let us keep the peace this newleaf. This...goes for RiverClan, too. Smokestar is dead, we've learned at the Gathering, and Lichenstar now leads them. We have to wait and see what things will look like across the border." ThunderClan are the destined protectors of the forest. How are they meant to do that if they're starting fights over the Warrior Code with their neighbors? Silent, she scans the crowd and waits to see if anyone will speak up.

// Sunshinepaw is named Sunshinespot for his cream patches.
@deerkit is named Deerpaw and is assigned to @lily pad

leafhusk sits in a small circle with her clanmates, tail curled neatly around her paws in idle chit chat. a quick silence falls across the camp, replaced by howlingstar's call. she bids her clanmates a silent goodbye, breaking off to sit and listen to the announcements.

"sunshinespot! sunshinespot!"

"deerpaw! deerpaw!"

only a warrior ceremony and apprentice, rather small compared to the last few moons. she spares a curious glance at the nursery, knowing that the overflow of kits will soon be put to work.

they can't afford a war right now, but lichenstar appeared mellow at the gathering. maybe for once, thunderclan will have an easy season… leafhusk's shoulders relax, an ear flicking as she looks around, gaze focused mainly on those from the hunting patrol.

"Sunshinspot! Deerpaw!" Softpaw called out, honoring both of her Clanmates' new names. Sunshinspots' name was one well-chosen, though with Howlingstar being the one in charge, Softpaw doubted that there would ever be a name out of place for anyone. Not to mention, Deerpaw was now an apprentice, one of her denmates for some moons to come.

When Howlingstar speaks of their relationship with SkyClan and RiverClan, Softpaw listens carefully. She's learned long ago that it's just as important for her to know the state of affairs between her Clan and others lest she be swept away by misfortunes - but Howlingstar assures the Clan that there are little to no hostilities for now, and Softpaw is happy and content to hear that.

Wildflower padded over and sat down. She wondered what Howlingstar had to say about the patrol that stole prey. The warrior was conflicted herself. She is torn between feeding her clan and respecting the code. She wondered what she would have done if she had been there.

Her green eyes fill with joy as another warrior joins. Part of her wondered if she would be getting an apprentice one day. Wildflower hopes she ends up with an apprentice who's outgoing. She likes the idea. Though, she may be a little lost in the beginning. Since the warrior had never trained anyone before.

"Sunshinespot! Deerpaw!" she joins in the cheers.
[ YOU CAN'T STAND THE THOUGHT ]

Moments like these make Lily appreciate her mother even more. Without her even mentioning it, Howlingstar knows exactly what she needs. Ever since the losing Wolfwind, Lily has had too much free time to mope. There's only so many patrols one cat can go on in a day, and with the number of kits in the clan, Tansyshine is dreadfully busy. What Lily needs is something to dedicate her spare moments to, and this is exactly that. An apprentice, a cat to train in the ways of ThunderClan.

Lily Pad searches out her new apprentice, making her way through the crowd to touch noses with him. Giving him the best, friendliest smile that she can, she says, "It's nice to meet you, Deerpaw. My name is Lily Pad. It's an honor to be your mentor."

// @deerkit

Narrowed eyes watch from the back of the crowd as Howlingstar begins the meeting. He doesn't hide the frustration that practically radiates off of him, and as Sunshinepaw is called forward, his glare is directed towards Sunfreckle's son. His nostrils flare as Howlingstar confirms that only one apprentice will be receiving their name today. He hadn't failed his assessment like his brother had, he was being punished for feeding his clan. You should be praised, not punished. His mentor's words ring in his mind, and this only solidifies his beliefs. Their leader was finally giving the eldest apprentice he had heard of a full name...had Sunshinepaw even earned it, or did Howlingstar simply pity him because of his fallen former kittypet father?

As Sunshinepaw became Sunshinespot, no words came from his muzzle. Instead, his tail lashed and tapped irritatedly beside him. If he had it his way, he wouldn't even be here now...but since Ravenstrike was in the camp, he had to be too. Next, one of the many orphans became an apprentice. Great, another denmate. The tom would still reek of the nursery, and be annoyingly excited about little things like the outside. He let out a sigh and pretended to chant with his clanmates.

Finally, the tabby leader addresses the hunting trip to Skyclan. There was to be no trouble with Skyclan or Riverclan from here on out, and the pathetic leader of the Kittypets wouldn't be retaliating, typical, he assumed the other clan wouldn't do anything about their stolen prey...not when they had twolegs to feed them if their tummies growled too often. The apprentice opened his mouth to protest, but he bit his lip to keep his mouth shut. As strongly as he believed in their actions, he had to shut his mouth if he wished to become a warrior.

𓍊𓋼 The call for a meeting brings Falconheart trudging over to stand before the leader's perch. Cream-striped paws come to a sharp stop, reluctant to move any closer. He knows what will come eventually—it can't stay wreathed in silence forever. Everyone knows… knows what they'd all done. And Howlingstar is unhappy with it, so she probably won't stay quiet about it for any longer. But first, there's a new warrior to be made, and the tom is reminded of his own belated warrior ceremony. He'd been so proud of himself, and both his parents had been proud—and as he looks over to Sunshinepaw, he's reminded that the new warrior has only one parent to smile and cheer them on.

He calls out Sunshinespot along with the rest of his clanmates, his voice rising with excitement and congratulations. The following apprentice assignment is less exciting to him, but still Falconheart calls out the newly-paired duo's names. They deserve to feel proud—even as the tom shrinks back himself when he's struck with another wave of shame. Of course Howlingstar would wait until the end of her announcements to speak about it. Bicolored eyes shift to his mother, attempting to find ginger-striped fur nearby the nursery. Is she still angry? Is… is everyone still angry?

⊱⊰ The nursery is normally a chaotic place, and one that Hopekit despises. He can't wait to be an apprentice, if only so he can sleep somewhere other than here. Some days, he even wishes that he was sick just so he could stay in his uncle's den all day and night. It's not that he doesn't like Coalkit or his other siblings—it's just that some of their denmates are frequently unbearable. He can't even count the number of times that he's been hit in the head with a mossball while he was minding his own business.

For a moment, though, the nursery grows quiet enough for Howlingstar's voice to break through the unrelenting noise. A clan meeting sounds interesting, or at least more intriguing than chasing down bugs like a kit. Hopekit makes his way to the den's entrance, stopping to acknowledge the queen who sits nearby. "Roefl—mom. I'm going to… sit by Gentlestorm." The quiet explanation is offered along with a brushing of his feathery tail against his mother's paw, and then he presses on past her to his goal. The fluffy tom isn't hard to pick out amongst the other ThunderClanners, and Hopekit winds his way carefully through the gathered cats until he reaches the medicine cat. Dainty lilac-furred paws come to a stop beside larger snow-white ones, amazed as always by the difference in size between himself and his thickly-furred uncle. Gentlestorm practically towers over him, despite the kit's most recent growth spurt that makes him look almost as tall as the youngest apprentices.

"Uncle Gentlestorm," he greets the older tom, a reserved smile curled across his muzzle. Idly, he aims to tug one of the stray leaves from Gentlestorm's fur, nose wrinkling at the crunching sound that it makes. But he's reminded of why he'd come to greet his uncle—Howlingstar talks about the patrol that had hunted on SkyClan's land, and she probably says some other important leader things, too. But Hopekit looks up at Gentlestorm and continues, "Hi. What code did the warriors who went to SkyClan break? And when do I get to be an apprentice?"

He wants to throw up… It's that time. The time to be apprenticed to an unfamiliar face, he has no idea what they are thinking. He wants to hide, but here he is crouched over himself, his unruly fur sticking out every which way like he hasn't groomed it. He hasn't. What was the point?

He doesn't feel very excited about becoming an apprentice. He's still Number Two, even if Howlingstar changed it to Deerkit. But, being an apprentice is better than being cooped up in the nursery with all the… whiny kits in there. He drowns out the first ceremony, as he curls his tail tightly around his dark paws.

He cringes when his name is called forth, so he gets onto his paws shakily as he tiptoes towards Highrock. Keeping his head low, an ear flicks when Howlingstar calls out his new... handler. Lily Pad. Who? An unfamiliar face. He wrinkles his nose up slightly, as he turns around to shuffle towards his new keeper. His tail twitches where it dragged along the ground, as he flicked his eyes at the approaching figure of a warrior. Must.. Be Lily Pad then.

"Er. H-hi.." he stuttered. The tortie tom inspected the warrior, he's not really sure how to do this whole thing. But he touches noses with hers as instructed. Unfamiliar voices cheer in the crowd around the newly paired apprentice and mentor. Too many cats are looking at him. He doesn't like it. He flicks his ear in slight annoyance, as a frown already tugs at his mouth. "R-right…" He lets his eyes stare at the ground like it's the most interesting thing in the world.

The newly named Deerpaw feels awkward, he can't hide in the nursery anymore. He just wants this to be over, so he can slink to somewhere dark and quieter.

It'd been a full moon since Tornadopaw had become an apprentice, it was wild to think about it felt like just yesterday he was cramped in the nursery but now he was cramped in the apprentices den! So much had changed! He sits attentively in the crowd padding through until he finds a nice cozy spot besides Softpaw, his tail folds neatly over his paws as he perks his ears and gives Howlingstar his full attention. Sunshinepaw was leaving the apprentices den today, he can't help but feel envious not that he was leaving but because he was becoming a warrior and Tornadopaw would have many moons to go before he earned his own name! Unless he did something spectacular and brave enough that Howlingstar would have to award it to him early, but he hasn't gotten desperate yet there's still a lot to learn from Mothfur. He'd raise his voice up to cheer when his name was finally awarded; "Sunshinespot!" it fit him with all his dapples and stuff!

He's not the only one earning a new name though, he's excited hearing that Deerkit would be joining him finally he was losing his 'kitten' name just like he lost his teeth! A delighted purr rumbles in the young toms throat as he tries to find his old denmate in the crowd, he sees him finally as he comes to touch noses with his new mentor. He would meow his name in celebration as well, his voice slightly loudly then before "Deerpaw!" he'd have to make sure he found a good spot in the apprentices den for him. It's hard to make himself sit still when he wants to run up to him and babble but he holds himself back, his tail flapping itself against his paws as Howlingstar speaks of the patrol Raccoonsmask's patrol over skyclans border. Honestly he wishes he could've gone, he'd needa ask Wrathpaw about it sometime sure he'd got to see the skyclanners during the gathering but it wasn't like he'd seen their territory (it couldn't be much different then their own but he was still curious).

As the meeting comes to an end he siezes his chance and pads towards Deerpaw, his tail swaying and a friendly smile on his face. "It's gonna be fun sharing a den with you again" he purrs towards him "Maybe me and Mothfur can come with you when Lily Pad shows you around the territory?" he'd have to run and ask but if Deerpaw didn't want any company he'd be sad but would accept it. He was always more quiet then some of the other kits he enjoyed his alone time, while Tornadopaw was the opposite.

When the meeting is called, Burnstorm's head raises and he immediately does he heed his grandmother's command to gather, to listen. He takes his place next to his mate, silver and black mingling together like the moon canvassed against the night sky. A serene smile settles over his features as he tilts his head upwards to listen to the announcements. Sunshinepaw was a good kid, one of Sunfreckle's... It is good to see the apprentice become a warrior, good to have another to add to their ranks when the dynamics of the forest were changing in the way they were. Smokestar was dead, Lichenstar had taken over, and what this meant for ThunderClan, he is still uncertain. "Sunshinespot!" he calls out with the rest of the clan and then "Deerpaw!" who is assigned under his aunt to train. It would be good for her, he thinks, a distraction was sometimes what was needed to keep the mind off grief. Stars knew he had thrown himself headfirst into them when he was grieving.

Palefire hung back at their leader's call, feeling herself still uncomfortable at the idea of crowding in with her clanmates and instead choosing to linger at the edge of the gathered cats. She shuffled close to Gentlestorm, taking solace in the Medicine Cat as one of the very few who had shown her kindness in the moons following the wolf attack. Sky blue eyes followed the earthy figure of Howlingstar as she took her place at the head of the clan, ready to announce the same mundane bits of news they heard every other moon. Sunshinepaw was to be made a warrior this time around, which admittedly, did cause a stir of admiration within the stoic molly. The dappled apprentice was amongst the group that had been injured during the owl hunt, and seeing them finally take their place amongst the warriors of the clan was a bit of a relief.

Shortly following, a new apprentice was to be named, though admittedly Palefire didn't know Deerkit - now Deerpaw - very well, nor did she know his new mentor Lily Pad, apart from the fact that the she-cat was one of Howlingstar's many children. Her tail curled delicately around her paws as she shifted into a more comfortable position, watching the young tom hesitantly approach his new warden with the same nerves she was sure she had felt at her own apprentice ceremony. One that had gone a lot smoother than her warrior ceremony, she pondered bitterly. And then, an announcement that actually was news to her ears; there had apparently been an illicit hunting patrol on the wrong side of Skyclan's borders. Interesting. Her gaze flitted around her clanmates' faces as the rest of them cheered for their newly-named charges, vaguely wondering which among them had been the guilty party.
