  • PREPARATION PHASE

Sacrifice of even single soul more would surely be the end of all rationality... How could they bear to see another life snuffed out with a bare palm, so suddenly as to leave them scrambling in the dark to find their missing lights? The anguished face of clan-mates left behind by those ripped from them haunt like masks of torment in grieving dance and ritual of dismay. It is her fault, they scream in gazes sharp as fishing wire. It is an omen of what great tragedy is to be wrought under the star-dusted hourglass that is to be her era as leader. Eyes lined by sanguine distress scan the clearing of metallic boxes, glittering prisons and acrid smoke piles... this is the holding cell for her clan-mates, her kin... and she would see it ravaged if it meant their safe return to the willow-reed dens of their home.

Her warriors had worked tirelessly to see the birth of this plan, one they sat on the precipice of, labored by the tasks that it demanded. This was not simple... and parts of it bordered on self-sacrificial, where death loomed as a very sincere outcome should one misstep. "Where are the... kittypets," she asks in low tones, glancing towards members of the few patrols that had encountered them and begged their aid. It wasn't until they were prepared and in position that they could begin a far more grueling plot...

"When... they're ready..." Her tail quivers in anticipation, knowing that she is most useful as a rabbit playing tag with would-be devourers than she is here directing diplomacy and evacuation. The bears... they were so close to this camp all it would take was a bit of coaxing. If spotted, the mad dash demanded of survival was best limited to one who could afford to fail... right?

Lichenstar doubted there would be no volunteers to aid that process.. those who held fish scored by unnecessary claw-marks to waft their scent more readily stood as bearers of the bait. Those that would lay the trail to their enemy's base the moment everything seemed most prepared. "We'll get... the bears' attention." She coaxes those brave enough (or foolish) to her side, slinking off to better flank their to-be adversaries with their russet-furred surprise. Snakeblink, Mosspool and even Ferngill were plenty competent enough with some form of charisma to see their half of the plan enacted.

Get them out... Get them home.

If she were lucky... she could race home tonight, splashing through the shallow rapids to bury her face in familiar daylily fur... to give a proper scolding to twilight-bright eyes... And if she weren't...

You did what you had to.

Their trek away from the majority of their search and rescue party felt like a silent but permanent goodbye... an understanding that this mission was by no means easy. That it meant willingly throwing themselves towards the jaws of beasts in a hope to redirect that ferociousness on selfish tin-home intruders. "Alright..." her commands stay hushed, barely more than a hiss, "Form... a chain... like we discussed... I'll draw.. the bears... to the first one... the moment you... see them. Start running." They couldn't risk getting too close to be found out before they were ready... But she was unwilling to ask anyone else to play bait.

    THE PLAN:
(feel free to choose whatever group feels most IC for your character)
GROUP 1 - main objective is rescue. they are going to be working directly with the kittypets in breaking their clan-mates out of their trailers and cages. work quickly and effectively to get in and out... trust your newfound allies, it is their expertise we need to get this accomplished! without them, it would be impossible to understand how the latches on doors or cages function!

GROUP 2 - main objective is havoc. these cats are accompanying lichenstar towards where the bears were last spotted with a trail of fish leading towards the twoleg camp. in order to prevent them catching on before the clan-cats are ready, the closest fish on the chain remains too far to be noticed without enticing. lichenstar will serve as bait to drag them in the direction of the chain, hoping from there the scents will bring them to the twoleg camp where masses of fish have been hoarded. once that is successful, they are to assist in any unfinished rescues or add to the distraction of twolegs.

PLEASE NOTE, canonically this takes place MAY 24TH and was delayed due to ooc circumstances <3 Also, this counts as a BOWFIN thread for those who participate!!

𓆝 . Β° ✦ It was time. All the planning they had done, and it was finally time to put it all into motion. Her nerves felt like they were on fire and she had to work hard not to show it. All she could think about was how any single misstep by either patrol - if grave enough - might spell the death of all of them.

"May the stars watch over you." Mosspool said simply, giving her leader a deep, respectful nod as the two patrols parted ways. Even though she hoped it wouldn't be, there was a chance this would be the last time they saw each other. Either one of them might not make it back. Getting chased down by bears was more dangerous, but sneaking into a twoleg camp was not an enviable task either.

Her gaze wandered over the rest of her patrol. All the danger that Lichentail and her patrol were putting themselves in would be for naught if they could not pull this off. It made her uneasy to have such a pivitol part of the plan rely on kittypets that she had just met, but it wasn't like there was another option. Without them, getting into the twoleg's nests would be impossible; she had seen as much on her earlier patrol. All she could do was hope that the kittypets would be able to do what they said they could.

As they grew closer and closer to the twoleg camp, Mosspool spoke her orders in hushed tones. "Split up into groups, each comprised of one kittypet with some warriors to accompany them. Each group will take a different twoleg den and evacuate any of our clanmates trapped within."

    MOSSPOOL β€” SHE/HER ο½₯ 17 MOONS ο½₯ WARRIOR of RIVERCLAN ο½₯ PENNED BY @empyrean !
Longhair black tabby with deep green eyes. Mosspaw is a very tall molly, standing a head above most cats her age. She has a slim, willowy physique with subtle musculature built up from a lifetime of constant training that lends itself well to swimming and running. Long, thick brown fur falls over her form with tabby patterning across it. Her eyes are a vibrant green, and shine with a bright intelligence and confidence.

TAGS β€” It... scares her, to be back here. Back within reach of bladed, hungry jaws; within reach of willowy, hairless twoleg paws. Ospreypaw's heart pumps adrenaline hot through narrow veins. May the river guide me, she thinks, meeting Cindersong's eyes for a brief moment. They'd be working in two separate parts of Lichenstar's plan, but... Ospreypaw has little faith in the kittypets, if she is to be truthful. They may claim to know where her clanmates are kept, but they could just as easily lead RiverClan's remaining warriors to ruin. It's a risk she is nervous, though not entirely unwilling to take. Perhaps the path of the bear is more perilous, but it's one that she can really sink her teeth into.

The silver-knit molly follows Lichenstar when the two patrols part ways. She carries their bait in her jaws, head held high despite the weight of it, ready to do exactly as Lichenstar said. If it meant getting Moonbeam home; if it meant getting Troutsnout and Hazecloud home then she would do it. If it meant driving the damned twolegs away, then she would do it. Her hatred for those upwalkers burns bright in her pale chest. And not to mention the dogs. She still simmers when she pictures Claythorn outrunning the beast fox-lengths below her perch; she still hates the fact that the warrior had to save her life. This time, she wouldn't need it β€” she'd do her job, and she'd do it perfectly.

After meeting with the RiverClan patrol mere days ago, Nutmeg had reported her plan to the cat inside her camper, @hazecloud . She described the events in near perfection to how they were described to her: the camp would be ravaged, and if all goes well, everyone will be free. "They're coming for you," she'd start off with simply. "Your window of escape may be slim amongst the chaos. Be sure to use it. I will be right by your side."

Now, she stood, as the sun peaked over the horizon and painted the sky a brilliant baby blue. The bears, as the Clan had put it, would be hungry now. She prays to whatever's above - StarClan, was it? - that the RiverClan cats do not get caught in their jaws.. and that the Upwalkers, awful as they were in their capturing, would escape unharmed. A perfect world would be in which this plan is executed with no casualties. But they did not live in a perfect world now, did they?

The figure of a black tabby approaches from their territory, accompanied with a patrol of her own. Nutmeg stands tall, letting her tail be her flag as she greeted them from afar. "They're on the way," she says to the kittypets nearby, waiting in anticipation to play their part. "The bear patrol will be along shortly behind them. Pick a pal or two and bring them to an occupied den, and be ready. Once your RiverClanner is out, help the next. No idle paws." Her tone carries like the wind, steady and strong. Leadership was never her forte, as simple as she was; but as she promised Hazecloud and the patrol that asked their aid, she would see that every RiverClanner returns to their rightful home.. for no cat deserves to be chained as they were.

Claythorn had not gone with Lichenstar- as much as she had the deepest of urges to assist with leading the bear to the camp, to see her rage enacted in the form of a far larger beast, she knew her job was better off here. She stepped just behind Mosspool, golden eyes narrowed ahead and ready for the oncoming... battle? Event? There was no good word for it.

She inhaled deeply, forcing ice to cool her nerves, to push that anger deep down. She wouldn't attack- she would rescue, defend. She glanced sidelong at others that had been placed upon this patrol, not selected for that of willing danger. Ears twitched as Mosspool spoke, and her head dipped, flame pelt rippling as she shifted and moved towards a kittypet with a pawful of other Riverclanners.

They could not fail. They would not. If it meant that Claythorn herself had to sink her fangs into the soft flesh of twolegs she would- anything for Riverclan, for the cats that had taken her in, the ones that no longer judged her for her heritage. The anger was akin to ebb and flow, it seemed- attack, no attack. She would do what was necessary. She would.

NEED MY GOLDREN CROWN OF SORROW

Once Rosalia had learned the identities of the rather dismayed looking cats in the campers around the site she had found that she couldn't sleep the same. Vigilant eyes tried to keep track of how the upwalkers around them would interact with their small mechanisms that were the cages that held them through the glass panes.

He stands rigid, trying to recall any knowledge that she could while waiting for the RiverClan patrol to appear. He was aware of the role that they had to play in this, yet they were thankful for Nutmeg. It was important to have a refresher over this.

Somehow her rigid body became even more tense as her attention is brought to the Riverclanners gathering, they nod their head in greeting. Yet their friendliness only remained within their body language, she had a polite smile yet it was only for formalities. Brain was busy reciting the plan, getting inside, finessing the cage latches to release the captured riverclanner then rinse and repeat.

This was a call to action that he wouldn't let slip by. Her mind drew back to Eveningkit, maybe they should go there first? He didn't want to throw a spanner into such a finely crafted plan, if someone else went to the camper that held her then she would diligently move on to the next Riverclanner. What mattered to Rosalia the most was that everyone was brought back home.

MY BLOODY SWORD TO SWING

-ˋˏ ༻❁༺ ˎˊ- A hot puff of air exhaled from Otterbite's nose as fangs dug into the fish between his jaws. What a waste, scales and flesh shred to pieces. It made his mouth water and if he were a glutton he might not have felt confident in handling himself on the patrol, but he boldly marched behind Lichenstar.

He briefly thought of Claythorn, satisfied that she had chosen the right route to join the rescuers instead of accompanying him. A task with less risk, better for her to handle than the pleasure of bears still hungry after a seasons-long slumber.

Lichenstar brought a pause to her followers, a reminder to her plan. Otterbite looked beside him, behind him, contesting his place among the chain. He would be the last- the final link to secure the twolegs do not return.

  • OPERATION BEGINS

She watches... eyes prying against the pelts that stand with her, that tread carefully after her and peel away at their assigned spacings... They know their task, know the risk. She doesn't plan on letting a single one of them be caught in the crossfire, not when she has luxuries they can't afford. The last one pauses and she stares... her nod is small, self-assured... confident. She'd meet them again in just a second... and they'd take the baton towards freedom.

She departs, quickening her pace towards the reek of decayed, tattered fish and prey too small to satisfy the belly of a beast so huge. They linger.... just ahead in hulking bark-colored shapes. It's daunting to see them even this close and to know she is not nearly close enough to engage... Does it hurt... the thought flitters by with an alarming casualness, lacking the fear it deserved.

A deep breath in.... she tilts her head back towards the heavens as if it might bless their mission. Her maw opens.... and the alarm sounds in glorious, echoing caterwaul. It is the signal for those lingering by the campsite to be ready to rush in... and it is what summons the attention of creatures that hunger for the meat around her bones.

They waste no time in their lumbering and despite their thundering, clumsy-looking weight, they are incredibly fast. She swallows past the ache of her throat, feels the hair of her spine stand on end as she turns on her heels, scooping up the fish she had brought to drag along as bait- To make me a better snack more like... Her paws scramble in the first to catch a foot hold before finally progress is made, haring through the grass to the next in the chain of many.

Dropping the fish hastily, she feels as if there is something upon her shadow, like she can sense its coming closeness and hopes to halt it even if for only a second. "They're coming!" The familiar scent of a RiverClanner is just ahead and all she can hope is that they've heard, that they are ready... and that they run.
