  Flintwish was born of love, but doomed to tragedy. His family is wide and far-reaching; Briar had many kits, and though hers and her kin are mostly confined to ShadowClan, Granitepelt's lineage stretches as far as WindClan in Sootspot and the now-deceased Shrikethorn. Flintwish himself is unaware of the scope of these relations. All he knows about his own family is that it is doomed; doomed on both sides, doomed to tragedy, to violence, to more leagues of sadness than he could ever hope to delve into. He loves his mother dearly, and though he was hardly close with Nettlepaw, mourns the death of his littermate in ways he didn't know he was capable of before. He still secretly holds out hope that Granitepelt might show up and apologize for all of the hurt he's caused. After all, that is the only father that Flintwish has ever known or loved; evil though he may be, Flintwish harbors a shred of hope for rehabilitation. Rationally he knows it will never happen, but this shred of hope prevents him from loathing Granitepelt completely.

  Generally, his shyness compounded with his abrasive personality and negative beliefs about himself and others make him hard to get along with. Flintwish likes the idea of friendship and companionship — in fact he yearns dearly for it — but he is tougher than a geode to crack, and once burst open, is not necessarily beautiful inside. His perspective on others has been warped from moons of unprocessed trauma and unchallenged opinions. He is isolated by his bad attitude, but uses that isolation as evidence to the fact that he is unwanted in his Clan.
  
  He is grateful in some sense for the few friends he does have. Flintwish isn't sure how he's managed to find them, let alone keep them around, but he is slowly opening himself up to being more present with them.
  
  In love, Flintwish is decidedly immature and unprepared — but that does not mean he isn't trying. In Ashenfall he has found a dear friend and a cat that he knows, finally, concretely, does not hate him. Despite their rocky relationship as apprentices, Ashenfall is the one cat who Flintwish knows does not disparage him for the blood in his veins. His steadfast support in recent moons has earned him a unique pedestal in Flintwish's heart. He is not one to shower affection on his mate, nor is he very comfortable with intimacy of any sort, but by StarClan he is trying. Deep down, he is still deeply afraid of love and having kits. His fears that his bloodline will be cursed have never been assuaged, and it is unclear if there is a soul walking on earth that could ease his mind.

  —— Flintwish fights dirty. In spars, Granitepelt taught him tricks that honorable cats may turn up their noses at, but nobody has taught Flintwish any differently and so he will employ these tactics (such as getting sand in one's eyes, feigning retreat, etc., up to and including murder). He is not particularly confident in his own abilities, nor is he particularly skilled, but he will fight like a cornered animal and that in itself proves him dangerous. Winning a fight is one of the few things Flintwish can do to prove his own worth to himself anymore, and so he will do anything to make that happen.
  
  *✶。 Fights to win. Aims to seriously injure; will aim to kill if adequately provoked. Won't go easy on the young, but will not aim to kill obviously young cats.
  *✶。 I like to roll for attacks but will adjust to keep in line with my character's strengths / weaknesses. I do always strive for fairness in battles & try to let most hits land, unless I'm avoiding certain injuries. Please feel free to reach out for battle plots, as I love plotted fights as well! I also tend to write battles aggressively, but don't take this to mean all attacks should be hitting — that is up to your discretion.

  THE KILLING MOON — ashenpaw confronts flintpaw about her sorry act. she retaliates by expressing the weight of her guilt for halfshade's for the first time; ashenpaw doesn't forgive her. the two are left in limbo.
  FORGED IN FIRE — granitepelt shows flintpaw how to spar, telling him that he ought to prove that he deserved to live over halfshade. granitepelt ends up giving flintpaw the scar on his shoulder, but also telling flintpaw that he loves her — a thing that she holds onto late into her apprenticeship. she realizes it feels good to spill blood.
  FROM THEN ON IT WAS HIS BIG SHOW — after halfshade's passing and the disappearance of two of smogmaw's kits, smogmaw takes flintpaw out by the burnt sycamore on a hunting patrol. here, smogmaw prompts him to climb to the top of the burnt sycamore to prove his worth as an apprentice. flintpaw obeys, spurred by the feelings of inadequacy he has carried all his life... only to get stuck at the top with no recourse. it was an undeniably cruel thing, and one that flintpaw carries in his heart going forward, ammunition for his hatred for shadowclan's deputy.
  PROPHECIES — flintpaw lies about his shoulder wound to starlingheart, telling her that he and granitepelt had simply chased a rogue off together. she believes him.

  out of the blue, into the black — flintpaw witnesses granitepelt's (and siltcloud's) exile, notably at smogmaw's paws. granitepelt succeeds somewhat in swaying her to turn against shadowclan, and flintpaw finally lets loose her feeling that shadowclan hates her more than anything. despite granitepelt admitting to many terrible crimes, flintpaw cannot bring herself to hate him in that moment, instead seeing far too much of himself in his father.
  CAN WE JUST TALK? — shadowclan reconvenes after the exile of two traitors. flintpaw hates each cat that speaks, finding their sentiments cruel or unconvincing. he opines his belief that shadowclan hates his family, and then, paranoid that they will exile him next, flees the discussion.
  NEEDLE IN THE HAY — in the wake of the previous entry, flintpaw disappears into shadowclan's territory for a night.
  HEAT THE PINS AND STAB THEM IN — ashenpaw finds flintpaw curled up in a tree hollow. the two talk for the first time since ashenpaw had told flintpaw he hated him, and eventually ashenpaw sways flintpaw to return to camp.

  WITLESSNESS ME — nettlepaw is murdered by an unknown assailant (ghostpaw). flintpaw feels coldly about it, but his grief is internalized and pressed into a burgeoning, miserable diamond.
